Art in Second Life 2023 (41) “A Crickets View” by Lotus Li @ Maison de la Chauette

I am a quite regular visitor of the NovaOwl Community Center and Gallery and the NovaOwl Sky Gallery Both are owned by Uli Jansma, Owl (Owl Dragonash) is the general manager. NovaOwl is an international community on the mainland continent of Corsica. NovaOwl is located on Novatron. It is a meeting place where events take place regularly.

Owl Dragonash invited me to another exhibition at a new place, the Maison de la Chauette. Owl made it easy for me and provided a notecard of this new place:
“Nestled in the NovaOwl area, Maison de la Chouette stands as the newest gem in Corsica South Coasters. Our commitment to quality starts with using only the finest local grapes, which are lovingly and traditionally smashed by foot to create our exceptional wines. Yes, you are invited to roll up your sleeves and partake in this unique experience of grape squishing too!
Stepping into our tasting rooms, you’ll find yourself immersed in the artistic spirit of Corsica South Coasters. Every two months, we proudly host a resident local artist, showcasing their incredible talent and adding an enriching cultural dimension to your visit. Be sure to check our website for updates on the latest events and featured artists. The winery’s strategic location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, creating a tranquil ambiance that’s perfect for unwinding. Accessible by both road and boat, thanks to our friendly neighbor Corsica South Coasters, getting here is a breeze.
So, take some time off, leave your worries behind, and join us for a leisurely experience filled with relaxation, art, and of course, our exceptional wines.”

The first featured artist at Maison de la Chauette is Lotus Li with her series of pictures named “A Crickets View”.

The landmark that Owl provided to me leads directly to the Maison de la Chauette

Actually from the  Maison de la Chauette you can look at the NovaOwl Community Center and Gallery
The location is like Owl described it, just a lovely place to be. And the Maison de la Chauette is really decorated with love and style. I enjoyed my stay there a lot.

Maison de la Chauette in the NovaOwl area

Lotus Li’s art is presented at the walls of the winery and on the 2nd floor, which you reach walking up the stairs on the left side. Again, I don’t have to speculate about Lotus Li’s intention with her pictures as she provided a notecard with the essential information:
The exhibition “A crickets view” is a discovery of the world and adventures of the cricket and how they seem to rock up in the most unusual places and an exploration of what their view of the world could be. World Globe trotters, inquisitive travelers who’s energy and lack of fear open a world of possibilities and views to leap towards.
I often wonder where they have been and what they have done in their lifetime.
What adventures are to be had?
where will they turn up next?
what Dangers will confront them?
I have found Crickets in some very odd places, in my home of course but once, I had one hitch a ride across from Adelaide to Victoria Australia during a particularity hot summer and mid drought. I’m not sure what was more memorable, my truckers sunburn or the fright I got when I reached into my bag and a cricket jumped out at my face!
What is the most unusual place you have found one? What adventure do you think it was up to?

Impressions of “A Crickets View” by Lotus Li @ Maison de la Chauette (1)

The pictures provided unusal views from the ground up into the landsacpe, at objects, often restricted by leaves of plants or by blades of grass. Lotus Li’s pictures have the depth that allows you to focus on the main object that is placed into an often nice environment. The pictures are artful and I think they are all processed to provide this impressions.  Well done!

Lotus Li is in Second Life since 2006. She’s from Australia and “loves to play and explore all things that spark my interest and feed her soul. In the last few years she has begun to to discover the arty world in Secod Life. Lotus plays with the photography possibilities within Second Life and it has been a blast for her. The possiblitiy to get the unusual angles, or scenes that you can’t see in real life has opened her mind and to try out the endless opportunities to create and to share with others.
You can see more of Lotus Li’s art at her own gallery  at CK’s Corner.

Art in Second Life 2023 (2) Crowns by Calypso Applewhyte

Owl (Owl Dragonash) invited me to see the first exhibition of 2023 at NovaOwl Gallery “Crowns” by Calypso Applewhyte.

Caly (Calypso Applewhyte) is a SL Photographer from France, who joined SL in 2010. Her focus is the avatar itself as a means of expression to transport emotions. She processes her pictures with Photoshop. I have seen her work already a few times and you can recognise her style, she has found her personal characteristic artistic style. Her pictures do tell stories, like good art does.
According to her profile Caly also blogs and has written articles for several magazines. And she also makes portrait pictures of course. You can see her work also on her flickr account.

Impressions of Crowns by Calypso Applewhyte @ NovaOwl Gallery (1)

Caly likes to choose a common theme for her exhibitions. The theme of this exhibition is “Crowns”. Crowns are a symbol of power and beauty and were and are used in several cultures. Hence you find quite some different forms of crowns. They might be formed by the hair only, they might be flower arrangements to decorate the hair, the might be used to enhance the face or the forehead or they can be classic crowns worn on the head. And you will find all these different crowns at the exhibition. Some of Caly’s pictures did really touch me as what would be quite an average face of an average woman – turns to be very expressive with a crown. I find that intriguing. And I enjoyed my visit a lot.

Most of them contain a landmark and a notecard about the artist. Owl Dragonash also provides a website with a list of the participating artists as well with information about upcoming events. Cloud Galleries are located in Novatron and are part of Corsica South Coasters.

Art in Second Life 2022 (92) Melancholia by Alex Riverstone @ NovaOwl Gallery

I got an invitation by Owl (Owl Dragonash) to visit the NovaOwl Gallery and to see “Melancholia” by Alex Riverstone. I had never heard about Alex Riverstone ((alex44.riverstone) and was curious. Together with the invitation I got 2 exhibitions posters and a notecard with the biography of the the artist.

Exhibition posters for “Melancholia” by Alex Riverstone @ NovaOwl Gallery

The exhibition consists of about a dozen pictures. All pictures are quite different and if I didn’t knew better I hadn’t suspected the same artist behind them. All pictures are based on SL photography and processed in different ways. Some are reduced to monochrome or almost monochrome pictures, others are in intense colours. And one picture is just minimalistic and reminded me of Melusina Parkin’s artwork.

Impressions of “Melancholia” by Alex Riverstone @ NovaOwl Gallery (1)

Alex Riverstone (alex44.riverstone) wrote in the notecard with his biography:
Photography has been a life long interest, starting when I acquired an instamatic camera at age 9. SecondLife has allowed me to enjoy it in a different way: allowing the exploration of scenes, poses and angles which wouldn’t be practical in the real world. My photos have been exhibited at the Hoot Suite Gallery, Elven Falls Gallery, Art House at Kii’wik Sanctuary, Raglan Shire Art Walk and Katmee Gallery. I enjoy finding new places to photograph and am continually amazed by the variety and creativity that i find.

Art in Secod Life 2022 (85) MISHAPS – The daily life of Ambre Singh

I got an invitation to see a new exhibition of Ambre Singh in the NovaOwl Sky Gallery: “Mishaps”. The invitation was similiar to that I got for “Past Masters” (read here). It was a HUD with quite some menu entries for landmarks also to her main gallery, her biography, something about the exhibition and other links, like Ambre Singh’s own webpage, her store on the marketplace and her flickr page.

Ambre wrote about “Mishaps”: “Since a good part of my SLife consists of getting into all sorts of misadventures, the theme was a natural one. Another common thread in my SL presence is a form of spiritual activism. My virtual existence might as well serve a purpose, right? It is therefore with pleasure that I invite you to discover my new exhibition, “MISHAPS, the Daily Life of Ambre Singh”, generously hosted by The NovaOwl Sky gallery.”

Knowing Ambre Singh’s art, I expected funny and witty pictures. I was not disappointed. Ambre herself was present and welcomed me with the words “Welcome to one more silly outburst of mine :)”
The gallery space is huge. On the ground floor Ambre Singh’s pictures are often extended with 3D objects fitting to the according picture. Every picture has funny and fitting title. There is a sandbank with beach pictures.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (1)

Where the heck did Ambre get these ideas, this wit and this irony? The pictures are really funny and made me smile. In some pictures Ambre picks up on current topics like covid or King Charles III. And it’s no surprise that Ambre also added some explicit pictures, as I did expect it. The gorund floor packed with pictures and ideas.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (2)

On the stairs to the second floor sits a man with a bouquet of flowers, but take a closer look, it is ot a bouquet of flowers, it is a bouquet of coloured dildos *winks*. The pictures on the second floor are also witful, but most are with a serious background. At the entrance of the second floor Ambre added a text:
A good way to get into trouble is to show your political views.I personally feel that seriousness is suffocating the planet and making people amorphous. We need joy, disobedience, courage and love. So here is my little contribution, my call for a joyful, libertarian and libertine awakeing. The beginning is near!”

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (3)

Ambre Singh is in Second Life for over 15 years. She writes about herself:
‘It is your mind that creates this world’, said Buddha.
All you do in SL will subtlely change you and others in all worlds. So in my life and art, I thrive to add my spice, beauty and love.
I photograph people of character in beautiful places of SL or in studio. Sometimes, I create thematic images in SL, or I mix worlds… If the harvest is good, I make an exhibition.
Colorful or discrete, tender or erotic, my photos try to express the life and the soul of the people and places.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (4)

I had fun visiting “MISHAPS – The daily life of Ambre Singh” at NovaOwl Sky Gallery. Thank you Owl (Owl Dragonash) and Uli Jansma for providing the space for Ambre Singh’s “Mishaps”. Ambre also mentioned Kika Yongho for her precious help in decorating the space.

The exhibition is open until 27 November 2022 – enjoy your visit, like I did.

Art in Second Life 2022 (65) Inara Pey at NovaOwl Gallery

I got an invitation by Owl (Owl Dragonash) to visit the NovaOwl Gallery and to see Inara Pey’s exhibition there. I’m a reader of Inara Pey’s blog for more than 14 years, actually I follow her “Living in a Modemworld“-blog since I became Diomita Maurer in Second Life. Her blog contains a lot of information, be it about the viewer, about locations, about developments in Second Life or art. I used and still use her blog to find ideas where to travel myself in Second Life and to get the latest Information about Second Life. Inara has an unique writing style, very picturesque and detailed. Her posts about places are always illustrated with pictures, and these pictures are always quite artful.

Inara wrote about the exhibition of her pictures at NovaOwl Gallery:
I don’t see myself as an artist or photographer, but rather a blogger who uses images to illustrate my writings about the places I visit in Second Life. They are intentionally devoid of narrative and avatars, and have minimal post-processing to achieve this. That people find them attractive and like them is genuinely flattering to me, as I am constantly in awe of those who can create such stunning images of Second Life, and I’m left with a sense of privilege when asked to display my pieces.”

Inara has an eye for the right view and motif. She slighty processes the pictures she takes in Second Life, some of the pictures featured at NovaOwl gallery are converted to monochrome to achieve the effect Inara desired. Inara’s pictures are as varied as Second Life is and reach from city scenes to beautiful landscapes, from art to fantasy and cover just what you can see in Second Life. What makes them even more facinating for me is that I recognize some places as I’ve been there myself, so they bring back fond memories of places that are gone by now.

Impressions of Inara Pey’s exhibition at NovaOwl Gallery (1)

You can see more of her pictures at Inara’s flickr page and of course at her “Living in a Modemworld“-blog. I can only recommend reading it regularly if you want to keep yourself up-to-date with Second Life or when you look for places to visit. Her entries almost always inspire me to visit myself.
