Simploring 2019 (38) Illicit Sculpture

I came across Illicit Sculpture by scoop.it SL Destinations once again. Illicit Sculpture is a new gallery space in Second Life owned by Sweet Bliss (evedelombre), she is also the curator and the first exhibition is about her art.

You can grab an information notecard at the entrance of the gallery. In It you find more about Sweet Bliss and her intentions with the gallery. It touched me, because if shows how important Second Life and it’s possibilities is for some of it’s residents.

“I first joined Second Life back in 2007 as Morbid Emor. Since then I have had various incarnations in this wonderful pixel-filled world. Second Life has been a lifeline to me at many points over the past 12 years. I am disabled, queer and mentally ill and Second Life enables me to be and to experience things in a totally unique way free from real world restrictions.
This current endeavour, the Illicit Sculpture Gallery, is purely to enable me and others like me to express ourselves free from the constraints of the “real world”. I would never be in a position to own my own art gallery in real life.

Going further inside there’s adesk where you can donate and where you can grab a catalogue. The catalogue explains the background of each picture. It’s a restrospective of Sweet’s last 12 years, an achknowledgement of the supportshe received with the virtual world of Second Life
Her art is impressing, comprises different styles and techniques, and the texts provided by the catalogue gives each piece a particular meaning.

Simploring 2019 (37) Second Life Blue by WuWai Chun

Recently I visited Michiel Bechir’s exhibition at Lyric Art Gallery (read here). He gave me an hint and pointed me to an exhibition at LA Gallery called Second Life Blue – and I went there Sunday, March 17th.

The exhibition “Second Life Blue” by WuWai Chun is located on the 2nd floor of the gallery. You enter the exhibition through a vestibule with an explanatory text about the pictures and about a charity organisation named Feed a smile, Live and Learn in Kenya”.
When you click on the picture a menu comes up. Select “Info” and you will see where the picture was taken and get a link to Flickr with the rawcap and more information. You can also buy the exhibited pictures. All proceeds from the sale of images go 100 % to the NGO “Feed a smile, Live and Learn in Kenya“

In the vestibul are 3 pictures, 2 monochrome and 1 coloured picture. The exhibition “Second Life Blue” itself starts in the next room and contains 12 pictures. As the name implies the exhibition area is submerged in dark blue light and the pictures are also blue-ish. All show art (the one on the poster is from Mistero Hifeng), people or landscapes. The images are processed from snapshots taken in Second Life and as described before you can look up where the rawcap was taken and you can see the rawcap itself.

No surprise that the artist, WuWai Chun, describes herself as a creative reporter in Second Life. The exhibition is a fitting selection of pictures and each of them invites you to take a closer look at it. I appreciated that WuWai gave away the places itself and that you could see the difference between the rawcap and the artful result. My personal favourite was nonetheless a monochrome (unprocessed) picture exhibited in the vestibule, showing a girl standing more or less puzzled in front of an urinal.

Simploring 2019 (30) Elevate Femdom Lounge & Spa 2019 – “a trip to india”

On March 5th, I visited “Elevate Femdom“, a landmark I got from Ally (ally259), who recommended a visit. Elevate Femdom, or with it’s full name Elevate Femdom Lounge & Spa 2019 – “a trip to india”, is described in the landmark profile as:
“Set in an exquisite Indian themed venue, Elevate Femdom Lounge & Spa offers a truly unique Female Led BDSM experience.” and tagged with “Mistress, sub, slave, Domme, Fetish, Bondage, domination, submission, dancing, live music, Femdom, Spa, Pool, event, fetish club“.
Of course it is an adult place. They host regular events including discussions, workshops, art exhibitions, fetish parties and banquets. Elevate Femdom is owned by mynx (mispixl) and her Mistress wife Eva Burroughs (evangelinaburroughs).

The landing point is in a seperate welcome pavilion, where you can get a notecard with some background information about Elevate Femdom and a notecard with the simrules. I recommend reading the rules, although they are quite simple considering that it is a femdom place and everybody is asked behave accordingly.

Overview – Elevate Femdom Lounge & Spa 2019 – “a trip to india”

At the time I visited, mynx (mispixl) and Eva Burroughs (evangelinaburroughs) and quite some other guests were present, amoung who were the sim manager Lethra Nyx (crazysad1stlady), the house slave Meldoran and the head barman and event host Marcas (marcasalan). Eva Burroughs kindly asked Marcas (marcasalan) to offer me a tour, which Marcas did. He was very kind, led me around everywhere, answered my questions and was just perfectly well-mannered.

Marcas: May I show yoou around, Miss Diomita?
Diomita: yes
Marcas: Miss Eva and Mynx have created a beautiful new place for those of us who call Elevate home. We can start with the main house. Most recently in between sims we had a bar called Elevate Wine bar. To my right we have incorporated it into the larger sim. We host smaller more intimate events here in the bar such as impromptu dances. A big part of this is community and it’s important to have plenty of places where we can congregate in different settings. Up the stairs here is our chat area.
Diomita: The chat area quite spacious
Marcas: Yes, it’s very open, but at the same time Miss Eva, Mynx and I feel like kept it contained to retain a sense of intimacy
We entered the chat area where I was kindly welcomed and introduced to the other guests.
Marcas: This, like I said is our main chat area. A lot of our guests often come here in the mornings and chat as they’re getting ready for work RL. There is also a room to each side of this one for smaller groups or couples for a more intimate setting. This allows people a break when the main area may get more full or “rambunctious” for their mood
Diomita: yes, the booths looks more cosy
Marcas: The whole sim is loosely based on a region of India, I believe called Kemar known for its waterways
Diomita: ah, therefor the subtitle “a trip to India”
Marcas: Also we like to have an area for more formal gatherings and events and every Christmas we have a holiday banquet. Our main dining room is this way.

Diomita: and there is the pool
Marcas: Yes, the pool is down this way. A couple of the peacocks get a little friendly. Although this area is wide open and has plenty of room for large groups it’s also a great place to come when you want some alone time.
Marcas: Obviously this is an adult sim and much of the furniture and accessories allow for that type of entertainment
Diomita: is there also a dungeon?
Marcas: There is no dungeon. They had something like that at the old sim, and Miss Eva and Mynx found that it wasn’t getting much use

Diomita: so what I missed seeing then is the event area, right?
Marcas grins “I was saving that for last, Miss”
Marcas: We’re having an event there that I’ve had the privelage in taking part in the preparations. It’s this way.
Marcas: This is our events area and normally looks like a wooden pavillion. Tomorrow we’re kicking off our new monthly Coffee Shop Art series. Each month we hope to feature one artist with an exhibit event and then display their pieces in the bar for the month
Diomita: So this exhibition ends today?
Marcas: No, it begins tomorrow. We just finished setting it up this morning
Diomita: for how long will it be opened?
Marcas: In here it will just be a day or two, but my hope is to move the pieces into the bar for the next month. All items will be on sale, proceeds of their sale will go to benefit the sim and the artist
Diomita: Eta Goldsmith (etamae) is the artist?
Marcas: Yes
Diomita: Why is it only opened so short … that is unusal for an exhibtion
Marcas: The event in here will be short yes, so we can use the space for other events but the exhibit itself will still be on display in the bar for a month
Diomita: good. I didn’t come across Eta Goldsmith (etamae) so far, but I really like her art.

Marcas: Well thank you for indulging me in showing off the place
Diomita: thank you for the tour. I really enjoyed it, Marcas
Marcas: It was a pleasure meeting you.
Diomita: is the sim European dominated?
Marcas: Between Europe and England, yes. but there is a growing contingent of us from the US and Canada. I’d say the UK has the highest population here, but that’s also where Miss Eva and Mynx are from
Diomita: I understand. Thank you again … I really have to run now
Marcas: You’re welcome and come back any time

I really enjoyed my visit and the tour. I like the concept, that Mynx (mispixl) and Eva Burroughs (evangelinaburroughs) have realised at Elevate Femdom. I enjoyed my short visit to Eta Goldsmith (etamae)’s Exhibition “Dominance and Submission”.
I was impressed by the hospitality and the politeness of everybody I met. Elevate Femdom is for sure a really nice community for everybody who’s into female domination – and doesn’t have torture and dark dungeons as their primary kink. Thank you Mynx and Eva for providing this place, and thank you for everybody involved.

Simploring 2019 (29) SH Tutti and Michiel Bechir at Lyric Art Gallery

Monday, March 4th, I visited Lyric Art Gallery to see the exhibtion of SH Tutti and Michiel Bechir. I came aross it following Inara Pey’s “Living in a Modemworld” blog where I read about her visit to the exhibition (Chalkboards and photographs in Second Life).

The Lyric Art Gallery is embedded in a modern fantasy roleplay sim called “Sea Island Modern Fantasy Roleplay”. The provided landmark leads directly to the entrance of the gallery. The gallery itself has 2 stories. On the ground floor the art of SH Tutti is exhibited, on the 2nd floor that of Michiel Bechir.

Lyric Art Gallery

I haven’t come across SH Tutti (secondhandtutti) and Michiel Bechir before. SH Tutti (secondhandtutti) is quite shortly in Second Life, she joined in September 2017. She says about herself:
“I can create things whether people like them or not, it doesn’t matter, for it comes from inside me and for those willing or open to knowing me, they will see who I am through my builds, my art. Welcome to my world!”
Despite her comparably short time in Second Life, she had already several exhibtions. She runs a store at the marketplace and writes a blog. The exhibtion at Lyric Art Gallery shows her chalkboard art. She took pictures from SL and processed them so that they look like being painted with chalkboard. And to make it even more evident, there’s an eraser and a piece of chalkboard at each exhibit.
The processing into chalkboard pictures provides a new persective on what we see in Second Life. I read in SH Tutti’s notecard, which you can grab at the exhibtion, that a doll, she named it Nomi, is hidden in every piece of her art. Can you see it?

SH Tutti (secondhandtutti) at Lyric Art Gallery

As opposed to SH Tutti, Michiel Bechir is quite a while in Second Life already (since 2007). Michiel art deals also with pictures taken within Second Life. He says about himself:
“I have started my long virtual journey as a photographer in Second Life in 2009.
First my main motivation was to share the richness of creations of all those different sims, with all their aspects. I discovered the options offered by several photo tools, which helped me to improve the shots I captured. By editing them I try to add a personal touch and feeling.”
Michiel’s pictures are impressive as the processing makes them more colourful and highlights the beauty or the original picture. It’s nice to recognize places, I’ve been to myself like Dunkirk – La Digue du Braek  or Wild Edge.

I enjoyed my visit to Lyric Art Gallery. Thank you SH Tutti and Michiel Bechir for this nice and inspiring exhibtion and thank you to those that provided the spave for the art. I assume, that’s AineMari Flanagan, who founded the group that owns “Sea Island Modern Fantasy Roleplay”.

Simploring 2019 (28) Rey’s Gallery

When I visited the current exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli on February 28th (read Simploring 2019 (30) La Maison d’Aneli March) I came across Reycharles, who is one of the artists who’s work is exhibited at La Maison d’Aneli.

Along with the exhibition Reycharles wrote a notecard about himself and his work:
“I’ve been in sl since 2012. I’ve spent a lot of my time traveling around this world. In the real world I work with digital and 3D graphics. I really like creating and manipulating to experiment with color and effect forms both in 2D and in 3D.
This is part of my work in the real world and I thought I’d bring it to SL too, so I’ve just started making exhibitions, I also have a gallery where I exhibit my artistic works, originals and reproductions.
My mind is open to all the suggestions of fantasy, instinct and emotions of the moment. I also love decorative objects, thinking that art and design are a beautiful couple“

In particular Reycharles sculptures, be it human statues or geometric forms or fantasy objects caught my eye at La Maison d’Aneli and spontaneously I decided to visit “Rey’s Gallery” the very next day. Rey’s Gallery is dominated by his 3D objects, his sculptures. The landing is at a court in front of the entrance to the gallery building – and the court is used as an extra exhibition area.

Inside I found some of the exhibits from La Maison D’Aneli, like the hand with holes or the ballerina. But most of the objects were new to me. I was in particular intrigued by the “Yes and No” sculpture and by some of the stylised female bodies. As Reycharles predominantly makes scultpures in white or in one single colour the row of 5 apples in different strong colours on the 2nd floor is outstanding also.

All of Reycharles sculptures can be purchased in Rey’s Gallery itself or at his store on the marketplace. I’m pretty sure, that I’ll come across his art again. For sure in my own garden as I purchased the “Yes and No” sculpture.

Simploring 2019 (27) La Maison d’Aneli March

I missed the opening of the current joined exhibtion at La Maison d’Aneli on Wednesday, 27 February, but I visited the day after. In March La Maison d’Aneli presents the work of 6 artists: Reycharles, Jeaneos7, Serena Parisi, Rofina Bronet, Kiana Jarman and Oema.

I started my tour through the exhibtion with Reycharles, who is in Second Life since 2012. In RL he works with digital and 3D graphics. He likes creating and manipulating to experiment with colour and effect forms both in 2D and in 3D – and he brings it to Second Life as well. Besides presenting his work in exhibtions, Reycharles also has an own gallery (here). At La Maison d’Aneli we see a variety of 3 D scupltures together with graphics and get some insight into his work.

Jean (Jeaneos7) joined Second Life in 2016 and began making profile pictures of friends in 2018. Soon he opened a photo studio named J7Studios, that also serves as a permanet gallery nowadys. Besides portraits he also loves to take picture of beautiful landscapes. At La Maison d’Aneli we see an excerpt of his work.

Serana Parisi describes herself as an explorer in RL and SL. Being in SL for more than 12 years, she still likes the joy, the simplicity, her friends of course and always to discover even more in SL (in this relation she’s like myself). The photography allows her to share her life. In the exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli she shows picture of her journey to Vietnam. She encountered people who’s smile and emotions intrigued her. She’s enthusiastic about the explosion of colours, which she thinks characterises this country. And her pictures serve as a proof that.

Rofina Bronet is in Second life for 11 years and decribes herself as a dreamer, maker, thinker, crazy, charming, with inner fire, open mindeds and much more. Two years ago she started with videos and pictures, she mixed pictures and video material recorded in Second Life. Her videos contain 3D effects, special effects and supports the music and art scene in Second Life. At La Maison d’Aneli you can watch her video of art installations of other artists like Bryn Oh or from festivals and other events. Besides that you see related pictures of these installations and events.

Kiana Jarman also joined Second Life 11 years ago. She simply loves to take pictures in Real Life as well as in Second Life. She says: “Photography is like writing with light, making music with shades, such as paint with time and seeing with love“. The pictures exhibited at La Maison d’Aneli transport a lot of emotions. You can sense the passion that went into creating them.

Oema is quite renowed as an artist in Second Life. I visited her sim Enchanted Art back in 2017 where Oema presented not just her art (read Simploring 2017 (34) Enchanted Art). Enchanted Art is no longer existent. Oema said about herself “I am an artist, an art curator, an art blogger and a magazines writer … so I am an art passionate:-). Art is a very important part of my life, one of the best ones“.
The exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli shows the broad spectrum of Oema’s art. She loves virtual landscapes, she tries to make them look realistic and she loves surreal art. At La Maison D’Aneli her pictures are shown in a dark environment, that gets a mystic atmosphere by moving sparkles of lights. Oema also writes about art in her blog Virtuality.

La Maison d’Aneli is owned by Aneli Abeyante. Through her gallery she brings together all forms of creativity in RL and SL and the featured artists come from around the globe. Aneli’s intention is to “put her gallery in the service of artists, so that the world can be better, exchanges and meetings probably contribute even though it seems to be particles.”
Thank you for this new joined exhibtion, Aneli. And thank you to all artists. It’s really worth a visit.

Simploring 2019 (26) “Inferno” by Noke Yuitza

My simploring tour on Wednesday, February 27th, let me to “Inferno” by Noke Yuitza. Once again I found the landmark in scoop.it SL Destinations. The landmark profile describes “Inferno” as “a glamorous free version of a part of Dante’s Divine Comedy, where magic and horror blend into retro-futuristic sophistication.“

The landing point is in a sort of an open air temple, the dominating colour is gold. Looking around you see some single pieces of art, all of which are quite impressive.

Before I started to see “Inferno“, I looked up Noke Yuitza’s profile. Noke Yuitza is a performing & computer graphics new media artist and designer. She owns E.V.E Studio, a store where you can get outfits like horns, wings, dragon heads, antlers and mesh suits decorated with lights and effects, where you can get flowers and different kinds of art for creating your fantasy world. The E.V.E Studio store is on the 1.000 m level at Imaginarium and there’s a teleporter to it close to the landing point.

I had a closer look at E.V.E Studio store and there I realized that I saw Noke Yuitza’s art before when I visited “Enchanted Art” by Oema back in 2017 (read Simploring 2017 (34) Enchanted Art) and saw Noke’s 3D art “World Eyes”.

I went back to the ground level to see “Inferno“. Actually it is a quite small art installation adjacent to the landing point. It is a colourful fantasy installation. A big snake with a dragon head guards the center piece of the installation, which is submerged in colour and light, the rays of the light radiating far into the sky. In the center hoovers a face mask with a very peaceful and relaxed facial expression. The floor is covered with peace doves, stars in gold, silver and red suround the mask and some golden and red bushes complete the installation. You’re seemingly attracted to walk closer, to become a part of it.

“Inferno” might not be completed yet. Noke Yuitza called it work in progress, hence the installation might expand. I enjoyed looking at Noke’s art and there’s some of it around the landing point. I also was intrigued by the E.V.E Studio store. To see all the fantasies, the creative beeings or colourful plants, the light effects was fascinating and at least I know now where some of the fantasy avatars get their gear from.

Simploring 2019 (24) DaphneArts – No man is an island

Thursday, February 21st, I visited the installation “No man is an island” at DaphneArts. “No man is an island” is created by Sheldon Bergman (sheldonbr) and Angelika Corral, who own DaphneArts, which opened in March 2016, and is an art complex that features monthly exhibitions, with a strong focus on the grotesque, surreal and existential themes.

Upon landing you’re requested to attach a HUD, that provides music and adds a black stripe on the top and the bottom of your screen and hence makes your visit look a bit like a film for the wide-screen. The stripes are also used to provide text.


DaphneArts presents – an experience by Sheldon Bergman and Angelika Corral – No Man Is An Island (1)

Together with the music and the windlight setting “No man is an island” has a scary and mysterious atmosphere. It a large beach with some rocks. Seagulls gather on the rocks. What catches the view is a tall light house and a burning hut next to it. Of course you’re attracted by it and walk closer to see the scene. The fire looks as if it has just started. The stairs to the entrance of the lighthouse are illuminated by candles, just like the bridge that you cross right when you land on the island.

In the landmark’s description the scene described: “The hermit dances in the fire, while the wind whistles a symphony. Raindrops patter on the sand. The candles burn. And, in the gloomy horizon, the lighthouse stands sublimely.“

Inside of the lighthouse is a human sculpture, illuminted by a spotlight – surrounded by the dark. The scuplture has a lower arm holding a candle in it’s mouth. When you enter the house you listen to Angelika Corral reading the poem “No man is an island“.

No man is and island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were.

Any man’s death diminishes me,
Beause I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

I further explored the island, that offers particular views for pictures with this unique atmosphere … while the words echoed in my ears “Where did you come from? Why are you here? Who are you?”

Simploring 2019 (23) Avaloir – Eupalinos Ugajin

I came across Eupalinos Ugajin during my last visit to La Maison D’Aneli (read here). Saturday, February 16th, I visited Eupalinos’ sim – Avaloir.
Avaloir is french and translates to gully. Of course Avaloir is full of Eupalinos’ particular art. The landing is in a skybox which is itself worth seeing – zoom out to see it’s extraordinairy shape and the the planet with the outside with an attached paper. There’re also some interesting objects in the box. You’re asked to accept experiences – and I did. Then I used the very particular teleporter, that animates your avatar in a funny way. I got several destinations offered and selected “Catapult”.

The catapult is on the ground level….
“Catapulte: Click the water planet above to select a projectile and Jupiter to fire the catapult.” I did and selected “bishop by Haveit Neox” …and a bishop dropped down into the catapulte and then was ejected by it. Haveit Neox? The name rang a bell. I just came across other pieces of art from Haveit Neox, when I explored Undertones, Art Oluja (artistik Oluja) place and gallery the day before (read here Simploring 2019 (22) Undertones)

I continued exploring using the teleporter and visited all desinations. Avaloir is an interactive installation of various smaller art installations. Each of them is unique, surreal and mostly also funny. For example when you enter “The Plant” your avatar is animated to wait ….
“The Plant: Please switch off your AO and by the way are you wearing the safety equipment found at the entrance ?
Waiting room A: The manager is in a meeting. You have no choice but to wait 30 minutes (lucky for you converted in SL time this gives 30 seconds). Please enjoy some delicious background music composed by one of our employees in his spare time.“

Or the bathtube …. once I sat in it, I fall …. and then I saved (clicked) the floating images as instructed and each gave a comment:

I tried “Anything” and got my avatar floating agravic among other objects. I visited the “Concrete Kite”, the “Egg” and “Star!”. I had fun not only because of Euplinos’ particular humor but also with the little activities and by looking at all the surreal objects. Some of the installations have also a touch of steampunk – like the “Zirkus Bar”

Avaloir is a unique experience and hard to describe, particular for a non-native English speaker like me. But that results in what might be the best to do – see Avaloir yourself. My pictures should give you an impression of what to expect and should be a teaser. Enjoy!
Thank you Eupalinos Ugajin for creating and keeping alive your sim. I like your art and your humor. And a visit is for sure an experience you don’t make daily in Second Life.

Simploring 2019 (22) Undertones

Friday, February 15th, I picked “Undertones” from scoop.it SL Destinations. The short article and the short landmark description of “Undertones“ did tempt me:
“Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect – a public gallery, garden, music, videos, artwork, and little shops to explore, snap, and hangout. Welcome all friendlies!
On the docks: T3T Rez zone, gacha yardsale and random freebies 🙂”
In addition, I hadn’t heard or read before about the artist, who owns “Undertones”: Art Oluja (artistik Oluja)

Undertones – overview and entering the gallery

At the landing point you can grab some freebies and a landmark at a raft, that is close to the landing point (one freebie is the raft itself). Getting up the stairs you enter a labyrinth of connected modern buildings with a lot of space for the art. In the first hallway one wall is full of posters of galleries. Seems, as if I will never be able to discover and see all of them.

Apropos missing – I looked up Art Oluja’s profile to find out about her art. She says about herself: “Addicted to mental stimulation, synesthetic appreciation, and art in all its forms. I admire creative processes, online and off, inside and out. Im an explorer and admirer of all the many creative experiences here, but sometimes I zone out enough to experiment myself :)”
I learned that Art Oluja had participated in the LEA program, having own installations and collaborated with other artists. I didn’t see any of it though.

At Undertones Art Oluja has exhibited her art as well as art from other artists. I came across Pearl Grey (pearlgrey), Klaus Bereznyak, Silas Merlin, Mistero Hifeng, Elle Thorkveld and Haveit Neox. I’m pretty sure, there’re more.

I visited the garden, the event area, the shops and some nice spots to sit and enjoy. I had fun looking at all the art, there’s so much to discover that my one hour visit was by far not suffient. I grabbed some of the freebies, some of Art Oluja own work is given away for free as well, some are sold – and yes, I got one piece for my own collection of art.

I enjoyed my visit to Undertones and seeing Art Oluja’s work as well as the work of other artists arranged thoughtfully and I had fun looking around. Thank you Art Oluja for sharing your place, for the freebies and for a very enjoyable visit.
