Art in Second Life 2022 (81) “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost

Monday, September 12th, Cica Ghost opened another new installation named “Pink fairytale“. The thought Cica provides with the landmark description is a quote from Philip Pullman: “Once upon a time lasts forever.”

As usual with Cica’s installation you shall use shared environment. You will get reminded upon landing. You should also set advanced lighting and activate shadows from sun/moon and projectors. The environment settings are part of Cica’s art. For “Pink fairytale” she selected a pink environment, actually all is in pink (surprise, surprise!). The ground is either sand with footprints and tracks or kind of a carpet with white stripes. There are many sunflower and flower fields, and groups of trees,almostsmall forest. The island of “Pink fairytale” is mostly flat with a few single hills from whichyou can overlook the scenery.

“Pink fairytale” is just this – a fairytale in pink. You can walk through this fairytale and explore it, you can sit down and watch (hoover with your mouse over benches and other objects) or you can dance (look out for the sign “Dance” and click it). Of course there are big animals again: ducks, elephants, pigs, a monkey, a cat, a horse and a stork. What’s missing to make it a fairytale – yes, a prince and a princess. And something is also in the underground. There are some tubes growing from the ground and soap bubbles are rising from the tubes.
This time there’s also a store again where your can purchase the different animals and the prince with his princess.

Cica’s “Pink fairytale” is a place where you can lose yourself in dreams. There are many details to discover. There’s a castle with a portcullis that opens when you step on a square in front of it. Inside you find a room …. and the pink cat. Thank you for providing a cat again, Cica! In front of the castle you find the princess surrounded by three ducks and a pink elephant. The pink pigs are close to an oversized cake. Well the cake is still out of reach for the pigs *winks*.

There’s another elephant not far away from the pigs. You can sit on it. If you look close you can see a small bug teasing the elephant’s trunk – or is the elephant trying to catch the bug, I don’t know. Anyway, if you zoom in close the bug is alos very “Cica-ish”.
The prince is sitting on his horse and watches observes what is going on in his realm from another hill.

As a little, funny extra Cica has invited her friend Eupalinos Ugajin to add something to “Pink fairytale“. Not far from where you land Eupalinos has installed a bar. There’s a sign “click the bar to get a drink”. I got many different things – but no drink! I got a “fembotulator”, a typewriter, a truck, a “dramaPodium”…..  all objects are to be worn and I tried them out. That was fun! (And I didn’t try out all objects. Thank you Eupalinos and Cica for this extra fun.

Thank you for another great installation, Cica, it made me smile once again and distracted me. Visiting your installations is always a welcomed time-out where you can immerse yourself into another fantasy world – far way from everyday life.
As always, don’t wait to long with your visit to “Pink fairytale“, you never know how long it may stay – it is a temporary world. And Cica told me that she already began planning her next installation.

Art in Second Life 2022 (75) La Maison d’Aneli September 2022

Aneli Abeyante invited me early to see the new exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli. The opening event will take place tonight, Wednesday, August 31st, 12.30 PM SLT / 9.30 PM CET. The exhibition features the art from tutsy Navarathna and from Violaine (Anadonne). I visited on August 22nd.

I first saw Violaine (Anadonne)’s art. Her skybox at La Maison d’Aneli is a classic gallery in Second Life – a squared room with the pictures presented at all for walls. Violaine wrote about her exhibition, that she called “Sunday in Space” and her art:
“As you can see, all pictures have in some way or other, some more than others, something to do with the vast space that surrounds us, filled with stars, planets, moons, gas clouds, et cetera. It’s been a lifelong fascination of mine, and I hope some of that will show in my pictures”
Violaine is in Second Life since 2016. So far I saw her artwork only at La Maison d’Aneli. She contributed in November 2018 (read here) and in January 2020 (read here). When I saw her art again at La Maison d’Aneli in April 2021 (read here) I wrote: “The more I see of her art, the more familiar I get with her style and the more her pictures, in particluar those showing humans and part of humans, become intriguing.”
“Sunday in Space” is not fitting into what I saw before from her. The pictures seen to be made with watercolours. Most are abstract and yes I can recognize a relation to space as you recognize stars, the sun and maps from a far distance. They have a naive touch with the smiling sun. I like the way Violaine uses colours and the longer you look at the pictures the more you often see in them.

The other artist featured at La Maison d’Aneli is tutsy Navarathna, who named his part “Greek Mythology, Surrealism and Science fiction”
“Pillar of teachings and imagination, Greek mythology generated for centuries a permanent cross between literature, poetry, music, painting, photography or films which told the delirious adventures of the gods. The metamorphoses of Zeus to flirt with nymphs without getting caught by Hera, his terrible wife! Chronos who eats his children, Icarus whose wings are on fire, the Medusa who kills with a single glance, Eros Thanatos and so many others. Their disputes, their anger, their jealousies, their loves!
They all spawned the greatest delusions of surrealism and science fiction.
Perfect continuity for an encounter with our next gods! AIs!“

The skybox of tutsy is made up like a greek temple with pillars. On one side you see pictures of the ancient Greek gods and the stories related to them. On the other side are picture from other worlds, science fiction. And the two are connected with a few surreal pictures. After all a fitting combination if you think of it. In the center of the temple is what you might connect with Artificial Intelligance, clouds of lights, pixels and data points, hard to grab, yet powerful – the new gods as tutsy wrote.

Tutsy Navarathna is also an artist that I didn’t come across often so far. I saw 2 of his pictures at the exhibtion “Soulportraits at Itakos Art Gallery in 2021 (read here) and I saw her installation “Get drunk!” at La Maison d’Aneli in May 2021, that be made together with Eupalinos Ugajin (read here).
Tutsy is in Second Life since 2008. He likes to produce machinimas and has an own youtube channel. And there’s also a flickr page.

For the opening event on August 31st, the music will be provided by “Les Chats Furieux”. There will be a light show and it promises to be a great show. vroum Short, who I know for her light effects, did at least contribute to the seperate skybox for the opening event as far as I could find out during my visit. It might be a show you don’t want to miss.

La Maison d’Aneli is owned by Aneli Abeyante. Through her gallery she brings together all forms of creativity in RL and SL and the featured artists come from around the globe. Aneli’s intention is to “put her gallery in the service of artists, so that the world can be better, exchanges and meetings probably contribute even though it seems to be particles.”
Thank you for another great joined exhibtion, Aneli. As always I enjoyed my visit and writing about it. I hope that the opening event will be a great success.

Art in Second Life 2022 (2) Onceagain Art Gallery

Following Rig Torok’s blog I came across “Onceagain Art Gallery” and visited it on January 2nd. Onceagain Art Gallery is owned by onceagain (Manoji Yachvili). In the landmark profile you find a short description:
“Hello! This is a small art gallery dedicated to women where exhibitions of various kinds will be exhibited on a regular basis.
If you want to be part of it, send a note to Manoji Yachvili with your references and a link where I can see your work.“

onceagain (Manoji Yachvili) is in Second Life for more than 14 years. She “likes photography, art, landscapes, animals, visiting strange places, most of these things she also does in RL”. You find more of her also on her flickr account.

Impressions of Onceagain Art Gallery (1) – Main building and exhibition “Kaleidoscope”

Her Onceagain Art Gallery consists of several parts. The main building, where you land, features Onceagain’s own art and some pieces of her art collection. Right at the entrance you find a teleporter board that leads you to other buildings featuring “Private Collection” (Onceagain’s art collection), “Personal Exhibit” (another larger exhibtion of Onceagain) and “Artist of the month”. The latter did teleport me to an empty skybox, hence I assume there’s just no artist featured at this particular time of the year. On the ground level you can also see 3D sculptures and art objects embedded in a nice garden.

My visit started at the main building. On the ground floor is an exhibtion titled “Kaleidoscope”. Onceagain wrote about it:
“Thinking of the joy I felt as a child when I laid my eyes on the kaleidoscope and with a simple gesture of rotation thanks to those fragemnts of coloured glass I created a new world, precise, clean, an endless array of colourful emotions and grace.
In out life time each one of us must take their pieces and put them back together again to be able to look at his own inner world.
In the life time of this society fragments of an uncertain reality, often confused, rich but fragile, where past, present and future seem to overlap in mposed velocity, the persuit of bauty in a game of fragmetns of light allows me to expand the senses, give peace to the mind, feed my eyes to the vision of tomorrow.
This is the thought that has noursihed my creativity for this project: the need to catch a glimpse of a possible hope for the revival of beauty in this world, the desire to look with brght eyes of adult reality and with enlightened eyes of a child its possible future.“

Impressions of Onceagain Art Gallery (2) – Exhibition “Kaleidoscope” – collected art on the 2nd floor

The pictures all consist of 2 pictures, on the left side a RL picture of something messed up, broken, trist and on the right side the picture of a kaleidoscope structure, where the structure repeats elements of the picture on the right. It conjured a smile on my face when I saw the similarities and I can understand what Onceagain wants to express. Well done!

Upstairs are some pieces of Onceagain’s art collection, in particular some objects of Mistero Hifeng. And there’s one room featuring Onceagain’s horse pictures. But these are not just horse pictures, Onceagain processed them and compared them with pictures of renowned RL artists. She wrote about them:
“We all have images archived, even at an unconscious level, models which we refer to because any work aof art is an act of communication involving a user, someone who enters into conversation with what is being shown.
Thus on reseeing a photo of my mare, I naturally associated it with a picture I began composing this project. Whenever an image reminding me of an artist came my way, I would set it aside, lke a jigsaw piece intent on arranging the end result, a part of which is here on display; thus, creating a personal dialogue with the works present in one’s memory by means of photographs.“

Impressions of Onceagain Art Gallery (3) – Exhibition “horse pictures” on the 2nd floor

Again the direct comparison is intriguing!

I took the teleport board and visited the “Private Collection” which is in a separate building. You could also walk through the garden to get there and see the outdoor art objects on your way. I visited just shortly, the list of artists she collected is quite long and I know and worte about some of them: Bryn Oh, Caly Applewhyte, DixMix Source, Eupalinos Ugajin, Lika Cameo and many others.

Finally there’s another exhibtion of Onceagain in a gallery up in the skies named “NOMORE”, reached with the teleport to “Personal Exhibit”. It is really a quite personal exhibition and covers a theme, i was not aware of at all. Onceagain wrote:
“NOMORE interlaces the story of the serious illness of the palm trees, caused by the red weevil, among the inexitent and sick relationship with my father and the joyful synergy experienced by me with this kind of trees during the childhood spent in the “Boulevard Palm” in Nervi, a distrct of Genova, the which I’m particular fond of.
NOMORE was born slowly, it evolves as thought mature, white the experence is lived. With the passage of time, I’ve collectd refrelctions, informations, old photographs, creating my iconic graphic elements, assembled in this project with a contemporary and complete overview“

Onceagain Art Gallery provides a unique art experience in Second Life. It combines art objects created in and for Second Life in the garden area and the art collection with exhibition space featuring onceagain (Manoji Yachvili)’s own art. Onceagain succeeds to explain and describe her thoughts when she sees a RL photograph and what pictures this photograph brings up in her mind. The direct comparison is intriguing. Thank you for your art, Onceagain!

Art in Second Life 2021 (40) La Maison d’Aneli May 2021

On April 28th a new exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli opened its doors. This time it features 3 installations / showrooms created by Morlita Quan, Yann GYRO (sempiternel) and a joined installation by Tutsy Navarathn and Eupalinos Ugajin.

The room of Morlita Quan is on the ground level just close to where you land. The room is held in white, Morlita’s pictures show abstract moitfs mixed with real life pictures (at least parts do like like real life pictures). Her art work is intriguing and thoughtfully put together. I’d prefer the presentation of it on a darker background, but that’s in the eye of the beholder.

La Maison d’Aneli May 2021- Morlita Quan

Morlita Quan was born in Galicia, Spain. She’s in SL for over 12 years. She’s an artist in Second Life as well as in real life, where she’s known as MorlitaM. In her pictures she focuses on abstract, graphic design and nature with geometrical shapes. She also works in other art and music projects. For more information, look up her website.

Yann GYRO (sempiternel)’s installation consits of a spaceship and one attached room. The landing is in the spaceship. At both sides of the spaceship are Yann’s pictures, yet you have to move your camera to properly see them. You can see into the attached roon from inside of the spaceship. Inside of the room is a forest, but not mesh trees or RL textures. Rather the trees look like drawings, just like you would draw them for an illustration. Once you enter you see that it is actually scene, a war scene. A war plane shooting with machine gun on a girl that runs for her life. I suspect it is an illustration for a story, that I don’t know.

Yann is in SL for over 3 years and an active member of the UASL, United Artists of Second Life. Yann says: “I always think if an art need a title to be understood its because its not good enough.” The artist loves to try any media and is not limited to one style in SL. A RL artist from France. A photographer and wood and steel sculptor.

Tutsy Navarathn and Eupalinos Ugajin present their installation “Get drunk”. It is an installation to enjoy art, experiment with new technical features and to have fun. It consists of 4 stations around the themes “Food, Wine, Sex and Poetry. If you select “use shared environment”, the environment will change between the 4 stations and it will change randomly inbetween (it did that for me at least).

There are sculptures, abstract and non-abstract pictures, there are bottles circling around the 4 stations and there’s poetry from Charles Baudelaire – Get drunk!

You literally act like drunk, when you get in contact with the bottles, you begin to dance and the world is turning around you- funny. I also had fun when I noticed an open book attached above my head. Yet there is more and this part was quite new for me: augmented reality – or in this case augmented virtuality. How does it work? You need a smartphone and an app. After installing the app on your smartphone you hold the cam of the phone on the QR code next to some of the pictures. The smartphone loads a video that is played in the foreground with the picture that you see through your smartphone cam in the background. This way the picture become alive – and again: almost as if you were drunk you see your own reality (virtuality). A nice and artful demonstration of what is there to come soon more and more.

Eupalinos Ugajin is in Second Life for almost 13 years. Inara Pey has visited Eupalinos Ugajin’s “Avaloir” and writes in her blogpost Eupalinos Ugajin’s Avaloir in Second Life: “Those familiar with Eupa’s work will know that it covers a broad canvas, often containing humour, whimsy, a little self-deprecation, which can be mixed with social commentary, imaginative projection worth of the likes of Gilliam, and an artistic flair that can quite captivate the eye and mind.”

Yesterday, I had my 12th anniversary of joining Second Life.
It has become a tradition for me to write a longer blog post on the occasion of my rezzdays, to have a look back on the last year and to realize the changes in my Second Life as well as the things that didn’t change. Yesterday, I published Part I of my anniversary entry and talked about my closer family and the changes in my family. Today’s part II is about the simploring tours I made in my 12th year.

12 years in Second Life – part II: My simploring tours

Let me start with my simploring tours about art in Second Life. I admire the creativity of artists in this virtual world, I visited galleries like Lyric Art Gallery, La Masion D’Aneli, 20][21 gallery, Rey’s Gallery, Shui Mo Gallery, Milly Sharple’s Fractal galleries, Daphne.Arts and Deva Westland’s Galerie Des Beaux-Arts. I visited and wrote about 7 installations of Cica Ghost, who continues to conjure a smile in my face with every of her funny whimsical creations. I saw fewer art installations since the Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) is on hold. But some private initiatives luckily provide space or the artists themselves dedicate their own space. Just recently I saw an exhibition of Mistero Hifeng’s art at Valium Creek Art Park. I saw “The Mind Melter” by Thoth Jantzen at VeGeTaL PLaNeT, I saw “Lalawood” by Theda Tammas, Yoon (onyxxe), Iono Allen and JadeYu Fhang at La Maison d’Aneli as well as “Binary Radiation” by Nino Vichan. I saw Twilights Doors by Bo Zano (Bozanonl Resident), “The Outer Garden” by bisou Dexler, “Inferno” by Noke Yuitza, “Avaloir” by Eupalinos Ugajin, Undertones by Oluja (artistik Oluja) and “Delicatessen – Tell Me a Story” by Meilo Minotaur.

Since January 2020 the blog has a new category for blogposts about art in Second Life, I won’t categorize old entries though.

I found many cosy and lovely sims where people built their own dreamworld, peaceful and picturesque. You don’t need many prims or a large place for it, Nevgilde Gaard or Black Mire – around hi-cafe are examples for that. Most of these dreamworlds were homesteads: Florence Bay, Authors Point, Secondlife National Park, Maderia Springs, Blaylock Island, Scarlett Isle, Carolina, Broken, Alternate Reality, Fleur Nederland [Dutch], La Digue, Northern Shore – Skärgården, Soul of Dreams … just to name a few. In these sims I spent relaxing hours and enjoyed the views and the peace.

Some were really particular. I want to mention Last Dove, a sim like a movie. It’s setting is based on Lonesome Dove, a 1985 Western novel by American writer Larry McMurtry. Last Dove is still open if you haven’t seen it yet. I also liked Kun-Tei-Ner, a sim that provided a scary view into mankind’s future, a place with no land, a city that grew up on a huge mountain of containers filled with broken technological stuff. And just recently I visited the SS Galaxy, the largest cruiseship in Second Life – impressive, in particular when you consider it’s history.

Then there were the sims that have a real background, where a place in the physical world was build in Second Life. This way I got a picture, an idea of the real places and my visits gave reason to do a little bit of research. Venice in Italy was one of these impressing places and I spent some time exploring it.
I had never heard about Ukivok before and now I have the feeling that I’ve been there already. I had heard of Huntington Beach before but wasn’t aware of it’s oil industry history. I also had heard and read of North Brother Island, yet I haven’t been there in real life (yet). Now I somehow feel like I’ve been there. I learned a lot about Chesapeake Bay, a place I’ve been to twice in reality already being not aware of it’s history.

I also discovered many places related to my kinky side, to BDSM. That’s another dream you can live in Second Life and I do. Unfortunately some of these places don’t stay long like the Elevate Femdom Lounge, Windhaven or Meadow Rose. Also some adult places, that we liked to visit every once in a while, are gone now like The Apostasy or Angel of Pain’s BDSM island (Remark: Angel of Pain has a successor sim)

Just recently I discovered Caged Elegance, a club with many member, lots of events and all sort of kinks. I enjoyed my visit to Catena et Cavea, an adult sim that is also really picturesque. Amrum is another place I not only went to for simploring but also for a session with Mistress Jenny when I had a green light. I like in particular the BDSM vacation home there.
We visited The Obliviation Hole RLV Prison of Starbright Wingtips who gave us a full tour. The prison and what is going on there is a regular subject when we chat during our Friday night parties.

I came across Eupalinos Ugajin during my last visit to La Maison D’Aneli (read here). Saturday, February 16th, I visited Eupalinos’ sim – Avaloir.
Avaloir is french and translates to gully. Of course Avaloir is full of Eupalinos’ particular art. The landing is in a skybox which is itself worth seeing – zoom out to see it’s extraordinairy shape and the the planet with the outside with an attached paper. There’re also some interesting objects in the box. You’re asked to accept experiences – and I did. Then I used the very particular teleporter, that animates your avatar in a funny way. I got several destinations offered and selected “Catapult”.

The catapult is on the ground level….
“Catapulte: Click the water planet above to select a projectile and Jupiter to fire the catapult.” I did and selected “bishop by Haveit Neox” …and a bishop dropped down into the catapulte and then was ejected by it. Haveit Neox? The name rang a bell. I just came across other pieces of art from Haveit Neox, when I explored Undertones, Art Oluja (artistik Oluja) place and gallery the day before (read here Simploring 2019 (22) Undertones)

I continued exploring using the teleporter and visited all desinations. Avaloir is an interactive installation of various smaller art installations. Each of them is unique, surreal and mostly also funny. For example when you enter “The Plant” your avatar is animated to wait ….
“The Plant: Please switch off your AO and by the way are you wearing the safety equipment found at the entrance ?
Waiting room A: The manager is in a meeting. You have no choice but to wait 30 minutes (lucky for you converted in SL time this gives 30 seconds). Please enjoy some delicious background music composed by one of our employees in his spare time.“

Or the bathtube …. once I sat in it, I fall …. and then I saved (clicked) the floating images as instructed and each gave a comment:

I tried “Anything” and got my avatar floating agravic among other objects. I visited the “Concrete Kite”, the “Egg” and “Star!”. I had fun not only because of Euplinos’ particular humor but also with the little activities and by looking at all the surreal objects. Some of the installations have also a touch of steampunk – like the “Zirkus Bar”

Avaloir is a unique experience and hard to describe, particular for a non-native English speaker like me. But that results in what might be the best to do – see Avaloir yourself. My pictures should give you an impression of what to expect and should be a teaser. Enjoy!
Thank you Eupalinos Ugajin for creating and keeping alive your sim. I like your art and your humor. And a visit is for sure an experience you don’t make daily in Second Life.

Simploring 2019 (12) 6 artists at La Maison d’Aneli

I got the invitation to visit the newest exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli, that opened January 23rd and features the art of: Therese Carfagno, Eupalinos Ugajin, Nabrej Aabye, Betty Tureaud, Tubal Amiot and Xirana Oximoxi.

I started my visit at the room that was filled with Betty Tureaud art. It is one piece, four persons stand in a circle around a hoovering couple. The persons or statues are made of coloured glas, each has a different colour, the couple being pink. Around the scene 8 cubes are placed in a circle and on the inner side of the cubes you see the faces of other coloured persons looking at the scene in the center. The whole scene is in a full dark room and once you enter there’s no other light than what is reflected of the persons and the cubes. It’s quite impressing to walk around and to step into the scene. I’ll refrain from interpreting *winks*
Betty Tureaud is from Denmark, she’s a builder and light and space artist in Second Life. I came across her art before at ArtSpace UTSA in 2016 (read here) and in August 2018 when I visited her isntallation “The Art Game” (read here)

Xirana Oximoxi (Nuria Vives)’s exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli shows a series of nine women artists of 16th – 19th centuries centering the attention to the difficulties they had to deal with to be recognised as professional artists. Each of the female artists has her own little corner. Stylised men are looking at the exhibited pictures and are discussing, you see their comments like in a comic strip, the ceiling hanging full of other bubbles. To some extent the comments seem to be funny nowadys, but on the second glance they left me very pensively.
Xiarna Oximoxi (Nuria Vives) is a Catalan artist: “My works reflect my concerns and my different moods. They are based on my experiences and express a personal sensitivity nourished by impressions from the external world and my internal world.” Nuria her an own website http://nuriavives.com/ and an own blog http://nuriavvives.wordpress.com/

Nabrej Aabye is a digital artist. His work ranges from simple illustration, photography, video, design, digital painting, typography and to mixed art. At La Maison d’Aneli you’ll get an impression of the variety of his art, that is not dominated at all by one style. The two boule balls and the sci-fi skeleton of a dinosaur show examples of his 3D art.

Therese Carfagno is Second Life for 12 years now and took pictures within SL for many years. Lately she’s more interested in pictures of real life. In her exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli she shows a series of pictures of Nancy, “a very kind and beautiful girl who’s very at ease in front of the camera.” There’re also a few abstracts. You’ll have to interpret them yourself as even Therese can’t explain what it is – nor can I.


Tubal Amiot’s usual name is Aïcha according to something in her real name. Like Therese Carfagno she’s also in Second for almost 12 years now. She says about herself, that other people find her being eccentric. For her SL is a place to do what she doesn’t do in real life. She’s first of all a poet and writer. Tubal makes paintings with softwares, sometimes 3 for one painting. The work exhibited at La Maison d’Aneli reaches from naive art to adult art, from scuptures to comics, from abstract to garphical pictures. And it’s really colourful!

Eupalinos Ugajin is also in Second Life for more than 10 years. Inara Pey has visited Eupalinos Ugajin’s “Avaloir” and writes in her blogpost Eupalinos Ugajin’s Avaloir in Second Life: “Those familiar with Eupa’s work will know that it covers a broad canvas, often containing humour, whimsy, a little self-deprecation, which can be mixed with social commentary, imaginative projection worth of the likes of Gilliam, and an artistic flair that can quite captivate the eye and mind.”
The room created by Eupalinos Ugajin at La Maison d’Aneli show several 2D and 3D pieces of art and a quote on the floor that is faded in and out at different spots and that describes the combining element of the exhibited pieces:
“…we now have 3D and the apologists say it is more realer than real. Do we need that? Shouldn’t we be putting our energies into something more worthwhile? The human imagination is surely the most amazing thing in the universe. We do not want virtual reality we want virtual unreality. We cannot replicate reality – ahy are we asting our time trying?…” (Peter Greenaway)

Once again Aneli Abeyante has put together an impressive exhibtion showing the broad variety of art in Second Life at La Maison d’Aneli. I did enjoy my visit and can only recommend that you’ll have a look at it.
