Simploring 2017 (72) Fairy Tale by Cica Ghost

My simploring tour Saturday, September 2nd, led me to “Fairy Tale” by Cica Ghost  . I became aware of it by Inara Pey’s blog entry “Cica’s Fairy Tale in Second Life” .

If you’re interested in art within Second Life, it is very likely that you’ll come across Cica Ghost. She has had many art installations and sigle pieces of her can be found in several other sims which deal with art. Cica Ghost is an artist from Serbia and in Second Life since 2010. Cica Ghost runs a little shop where you can buy some of her art. Her list of exhibitions and installations is quite long. You can grab one at the landing point at “Fairy Tale“. I myself visited some of the sims, that she has created and I wrote bout them: Cica’s Library, Frogs, Keys, Ruins.

September 3rd: Impressions of “Fairy Tale” by Cica Ghost (1)

Fairy Tale” is once again different. It is build on a rocky and hilly island. Many towers, build of separate large flat stones, rise up very high. The vagetation is meagre and and look like in winter, there’s no single leaf. In the middle of the island are two dragons that seem to supervise the island. On one bigger rock at one side of the island is a single one room shed. And there’s a fence around the shed and a littel garden with some flowers (and colours as opposed to the rest of the island). Some cats and one woman live their lonely life there.

September 3rd: Impressions of “Fairy Tale” by Cica Ghost (2)

The landmark description is a quote of C. S. Lewis, a british novelist and poet: “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”
Like Cica’s other installations there’re plenty of possible interpretations and she avoids giving any direction. I personally can’t really get the quote into a reasonable relation to the sim “Fairy Tale“. Just the single house with the garden and it’s strange inhabitant with the cats build a sharp contrast to the rest of the island with it’s stone towers and the two dragons. Overall the atmosphere is cold but it’s not hostile, and the dragons seem to be peaceful (to me). I found a dancing animation on one rock and tried it out, as well as a sitting pose just next to one of the dragons. What reminds me of a fairy tale is that the whole installation seems to be like dream, as not everything makes sense in a dream.

Build yourself your own picture and your own interpretation. Thank you Cica for another piece of art for Second Life.

Simploring 2017 (71) Art by Nature

Another time I went simploring following Inara’s footsteps in Second Life. Inspired by her blog entry “A return to the Art of Nature in Second Life“. I visited the exhibition “Art By Nature” of Ani (anibrm.jung).

Art by Nature is an exhibition presented by “Gallery Graine and Riverside Cafe”, which is owned by Graine Macbain. Again a place where artists get the opportunity to exhibit due to private iniative and sponsoring.

Impressions of the Exhibition “Art By Nature” by Anibrm Jung (1)

Anibrm Jung is a RL award-winning photographer for her sensitive and vibrant portraits of nature’s works of art. Using only natural light and her Nikon D60 digital camera she captures the intimate detail of the life bursting forth in her garden. Framing at the viewfinder, Ani uses no cropping or image manipulation, allowing us to see exactly as she sees and to feel the closemess to nature that is her joy. Ani, 42, is from the Netherlands and has been active in SL since December, 2006 as an artist and also performs as the lead singer for SL’s “Slave Girls Rock” band.
(taken from the information of the exhibition)

Impressions of the Exhibition “Art By Nature” by Anibrm Jung (2)

If you enjoy good photographs be it macro pictures of insects or blossoms or pictures of a pure nature landscapes or landmarks, then you’ll be exited by Ani’s art. It’s the selection of the right object, the right time to take a picture and the selected window that makes it art. I like her work!

Impressions of the Exhibition “Art By Nature” by Anibrm Jung (3), in the lower picture is Ani herself

I met Ani at her exhibition Art By Nature and we had a short chat. I asked her about a website for more information, she has none. Hence you have to visit her exhibition to see her work and to buy some of her Pictures. They are quite affordable at prices of around 500 to 600 L$.

I can just recommend a visit.

Simploring 2017 (68) Aly’s Fine Art Gallery & Jungle

Thursday, August 17th, I went simploring following Inara Pey’s blog post “Art in the wild in Second Life“. Aly’s Fine Art Gallery & Jungle is, no surprise, a sim owned by Aly (Alysheea) with a gallery showing Aly’s art and with a jungle. The sim was built by Prosperine2 and Hepburn30. In the landmark description it is described with the tags “fine art, sculptures, photographs. The sim contains: waterfalls, cliffs, caverns, caves, hidden discoveries, romance, relaxation, dancing, adventure, Buddha, elephants, nature, GREAT photo ops, ruins, beaches and more!

The landing point is close to the gallery, that spreads over three open huts built on the beach. Aly’s art compromises moving 3D art (mobiles) and pictures of different styles from RL photography to fractal art, from black and white to SL snapshots and mixtures of all all styles. You can purchase the art here, most are just 99 L$.

After my visit to the gallery I began exploring the island. Aly’s wrote in her notecard:
Immerse your senses and enjoy!
Beauty surrounds you for relaxation and smiles
Take the time to view the art and the nature!
Search for hidden beauty along the way.
That pretty much describes the sim very well.

Impressions of Aly’s Fine Art Gallery & Jungle (2)

Aly’s Fine Art Gallery & Jungle‘s nature and the jungle are beautiful and colourful (did I mention already that I love colours?). It offers many places to sit and cuddle or to dance or to simply enjoy the view. I also tried out the tai chi animation on the top of a rock near the balloon. The big huge rock in the West covers a cave and tunnel system. The caves offer more places to wind down, to dance or simply to enjoy the colours and the peace.
I won’t describe the places and spots in detail here as my pictures tell more than a thousand words. I also discovered a cove with a “Moonphase Piano”, most probably better known as “Simon says” and I played a bit, still a nice game and a nice exercise for your memory.

I explored and discovered Aly’s Fine Art Gallery & Jungle for about an hour and I really enjoyed my visit and I took many pictures. A lovely sim! Thank you Aly for your art and in particular for providing your sim to the public.

Simploring 2017 (66) Split Screen LEA 15

I read Inara Pey’s post “A Split Screen double in Second Life”  in her blog and decided to visit this sim at LEA 15.

August 14th: Split Screen LEA 15

According to Inara LEA 15 is a temporary home for Dividni Shostakovich’s Split Screen. Split Screen Installation Space is a curated place for artists to develop large installations, often not possible in the physical world. At LEA 15 there’re two installations “EveryWhere and NoWhere” by JadeYu Fhang and “The Games We Play” by Krystali Rabeni. Both can be accessed via teleporters from the landing point and with teleporters from eachother.

Impressions of “EveryWhere and NoWhere” by JadeYuWell at Split Screen LEA 15 (1)

“EveryWhere and NoWhere” by JadeYu Fhang is the larger installation which spreads over several levels. Most of it is held in white and light blue giving the impression of being in a cold, maybe winterly world. There are ladders that connect the levels. They seemingly end into nothing, but from their end you fall on another (invisible) level to walk upon. The female statues look like altered dolls, some like modern interpretations of gods of the Greek mythology. Some statues hoover headlong, others seem to climb up a never ending staircase or elevator.

Impressions of “EveryWhere and NoWhere” by JadeYuWell at Split Screen LEA 15 (2)

It’s hard to interpret what you see and that might be intended. There’s no notecard or description for this installation nor did I find information about the artist JadeYu Fhang. And the title “EveryWhere and NoWhere”? This place is for sure not from our physical world, hence it is NoWhere and you find elements from EveryWhere.
Don’t mind, experience yourself!

“The Games We Play” by Krystali Rabeni is a comparably small installation, a game of chess but not on a flat board. The board has several levels and the chessmen are also moving up the vertical walls and the pawns are flying above the scenery. It looks busy. Again no information about this installaion nor about the artist.

Impressions of “The Games We Play” by Krystali Rabeni at Split Screen LEA 15

For another interpretation look at Inara Pey’s blog post. She added her thoughts. According to her Information LEA 15 will stay open until End of September 2017.

Both installations offer many opportunities for taking pictures and for experiencing 3D art in Second Life. Thank you Dividni Shostakovich for providing the space within LEA 15. Thank you JadeYu Fhang and Krystali Rabeni for the art. I enjoyed a lovely break in my Second Life exploring it.

Simploring 2017 (63) Temprus – My Secret Garden

Tuesday, August 1st, I made another simploring tour. I found Temprus My Secret Garden in the SL Destination guide  under the category art.
Temprus, home to Art in the Park, is featuring the work of Ilyra Chardin in a full sim, immersive art installation. Begin your exploration with “normal” gardens that quickly lead both to the secret garden and to Art in the Park.”

Upon your landing, you choose to either walk along the shoreline to “Art in the Park” or to see “My Secret Garden. I first explored “Art in the Park”, a gallery within a park just by the shoreline. There are paintings of several artists that have exhibitions also somewhere else like Sandi Benelli, Maxie Daviau, CybeleMoon (Hana Hobinoo), Kayleigh Lavende and ilyra chardin herself, who owns “Temprus My Secret Garden“. As far as I understood, the paintings are changing, there’re also particular exhibitions, which are announced either in a group, that you can join, or on the homepage for the sim “Temprus Times“.

“Art in the park” at Temprus – My Secret Garden

After my visit to the “Art in the Park”, I follwed the path to “My Secret Garden”. The stairs and the path end at a hut with a board “Just a garden shed. Nothin’ interesting here! KEEP OUT! This means YOU!!!” Of course that reads like an invitation to have a look, and I looked inside.

There’s nothing inside but the end of a tunnel that leads you below the big massive rocks to the other part of the island – and to a house with a garden in which art of ilyra chardin is exhibited. Is this the “My Secret Garden?” Honestly I have no idea. It is nice and tasteful though – or is “My Secret Garden” the farmstead, that covers most of this part of the island beyound the massive rock? I had a look around and enjoyed the silence and the peace. There’re also some children playing (mesh dolls) but ecept ot them, I saw none a the whole farmstead. At one end of the farmstead is a crooked and high frame house and I climbed on it just for the view over the island. From there I could see a beach which was my next point to visit.

Exploring the path to “My Secret Garden”? at Temprus – My Secret Garden

At the beach you find a scene that reminded me of Gulliver’s Travels by the Irish writer Jonathan Swift. Or is that scene related to anything else?

At the Northern end of the island is a row of industrial or warhouse houses, a crane and the submarine Nautilus. Again a scenery that doesn’t fit to the farmstead and seems to be of another world. And there’s this woman selling flowers and veggies … strange. There might be more to discover that will bring some more light into this, but I was lacking time.

Farmstead (upper left), Gulliver (upper right), Nautilus (lower left) and Nautilus Harbour (lower right) at Temprus – My Secret Garden

The last edge of “Temprus My Secret Garden“, that I explored was Maycomb. It is spearated from the farmstead and the other parts of the island by a steep rock wall on one side and by the massive rock that parts the island by the other side. What you see is just one road, on the first glance I assumed that this road and the houses along it are a reproduction of the real Maycomb, Alabama in the United States. It looks at least typical, the map, that is shown on a baord at the entrance of the street looks real – but Maycomb, Alabama is a fiction from the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee published in 1960. The primary themes of “To Kill a Mockingbird involve” racial injustice and the destruction of innocence. The story takes place during three years (1933–35) of the Great Depression in the fictional “tired old town” of Maycomb, Alabama, the seat of Maycomb County (source Wikipedia)

My visit to “Temprus My Secret Garden” was very varied, I enjoyed art as well as nature and some fictional places of novels, literature in 3D 🙂
Thank you, ilyra chardin!

Simploring 2017 (62) The Mind of The Machine

I looked into the SL Destination guide again for my next simploring tour. In the category art I chose to visit “The Art Rocket“. The SL Destination guide isn’t always up-to-date. In particular the sims presenting art within the LEA Program are changing quite often, at least twice a year. The landmark led me to LEA 19 and to The Mind of The Machine“, an installation of Rage Darkstone. I landed in the center of turning coloured discs, spirals and other geometric forms which are placed into a cube with a checked pattern of colours.

The moving objects produce a quickly changing background. Any gap is filled with the checked pattern of the surrounding cube. There’s a vehicle rezzer, the vehicle is sort of a gondola of a chair lift. Sitting down you can enjoy a short ride inside of the objects getting other colourful effects. The Mind of The Machine follows own patterns, produces constantly changing thoughts and effects and everybody expierences it different, there seems to be no repetition, no fixed sheme – yet we know, it is a machine and it follows a pattern.

Impressions of “The Mind of The Machine” at LEA 19

And you can dance to modern electronic music. I visited later again together with Mistress Jenny and we danced there together. I learned that moving colourful objects isn’t everybody’s taste and can be quite tiring for the eyes – probably also depending on the screen size you use for Second Life.

As I love colours and taking pictures, I like the installation. Thank you, Rage Darkstone, for providing it.

Simploring 2017 (60) SOOSH Art Gallery

For my simploring tour Wednesday, July 26th, I selected SOOSH Art Gallery from the SL desination guide , where it is listed under art.
“Wander through a whimsical, magical and romantic fantasy garden filled with original artwork by real life artist, SOOSH (Rox SOOSH a.k.a. Roxlette Resident). As you explore the gardens, you will see her paintings and drawings on flowers, mushrooms, fairies, unicorns, fawns, bunnies, birds, butterflies and more.”

SOOSH, an Australian artist, has had gallery shows and exhibitions in real life and studied fine art at university.
“Art is my meditation and a connection to myself, my mind, soul and spirit. I love to express myself spiritually through my art and I love sharing it with the world. I am known to create multi-layered colourful abstract pieces using healing crystals and a variety of vibrant and neutral colours. I think there is beauty and powerful energy in using crystals and many colours. Every detail I create and use has meaning and I hope to connect with others through my artwork.”

The SOOSH Gallery is embedded in a fantasy garden. In the gallery itself you find examples of SOOSH’s 2D art, colourful mostly abstract paintings as well as coloured shapes of animals. What did attract me much more is SOOSH’s fantasy garden. SOOSH’s art is spread over the garden and most pieces that you can see and buy in the gallery can be seen and bought also in the garden. Some pieces are only in the fantasy garden. At each piece you find a little board that gives out some information about it, it’s title and the price.

The garden is colourful and SOOSH art fits very well into it. Right opposite of the Gallery builing is a place with a lot of SOOSH’s art and in the middle of it are game tables with: cards against humanity, cheesy, skippo, greedy and can’t stop (I just know cards against humanity and greedy). The garden also offers some very nice places to sit and cuddle, which makes a visit very enjoyable. If you like colour, then SOOSH’s garden and her art is something you shouldn’t miss.

“Realising Shapes”, Abstract free-hand drawing on mushrooms by SOOSH – at the fantasy garden and at our home

Instead of donating I decided to buy a piece of art for our home, I got the mushrooms coloured with abstract free-hand drawing, titeled “Realising Shapes”. They will remind me of my visit and will be an eye-candy for our garden in SL.

Thank you SOOSH for your art, the gallery and the lovely garden.

Simploring 2017 (58) Sol and Mani

“Sol and Mani” by Fifi Candyfloss Oh at LEA 2

Scrolling through the SL Desination guide I came across Sol and Mani, an art installation of Fifi Candyfloss Oh (siouxsieincognita). Sol is the Goddess of the Sun and Mani is the God of the Moon in Norse/Germanic mythology.
Sol and Mani is an event place the main area is surrounded by sculptures of trees, displays of Sol and Mani in their chariots that are chased by wolfes. As some of the displays ar semi transparent you get different effects just depending from where and at which angle you look at them. Embedded in the (main?) display is the desk for the disc jockey and I took this place just for a picture.
I don’t know if Sol and Mani was buildt as a background for just one event, which was on July 8th or if there’ll be more events to come.

Impressions of “Sol and Mani” by Fifi Candyfloss Oh at LEA 2

Sol and Mani is embedded into another exhibition at LEA 2 by TerraMerhyem, who presents Norse/Germanic myths and legends. And Fifi Candyfloss Oh contributed to this exhibition, as far as I understood. This exhibition ends July 31st, so there’s not much time left to see it. And most probably also Sol and Mani will end July 31st then. I added just a few impressions of TerraMerhyem’s exhibition. It can be reached by a teleporter pad at Sol and Mani.

Fifi Candyfloss Oh is an American digital artist, builder & photographer. She has also a deviant Art account and she’s engaged at MetaHapers, a casual, easy going group of individuals. They create and publicize examples of highly imaginative art in SL, and explore how SL’s virtual world enables new artistic fusions of technology and art. And they run a website http://www.metaharpers.net/

Simploring 2017 (56) Moya

Ever heard about Moya, about Patrick Moya? No? Nor did I.
Looking for a place to visit and scrolling through the SL destination guide I came across Studio Moya: “Explore this creative, messy and chaotic art space by Patrick Moya“.
Well I did explore it starting at Moya Land.

Patrick Moya (born 1955 in Troyes, France), is a French artist. He is a part of the artistic movement “Ecole de Nice”. Moya has been at the forefront since the 1970s of straddling the latest forms of media and technology to benefit art rather than rendering it extinct. He is an early pioneer of video art.
Moya become a digital artist since his early work on computer in the mid-80s : now, since 2007, he is the owner of a virtual Moya Land in the 3D web of Second Life.
In 2009, he participates to the first major exhibition about “Art in Second Life”, under the title “Rinascimento Virtuale ». It was in the museum of Anthropology of Florence, the City of the Renaissance, where an entire room was devoted to the “Moya civilization”.

In summer 2011, the Moya Universe is arrived to maturity, as demonstrated by the big mural-installation of 90 meters long, a fresco who told the story of Moya civilization, on the walls of the art center La Malmaison, in Cannes. This exhibition, built also in SL, allowed to visitors to meet the artist from a distance, to ask questions and to visit with him his virtual Moya Land.
Today, Moya is living between real and virtual Worlds, and, with the name of “Moya Janus” (the name of his avatar), he answers to journalist (Radio Canada, 2013), to students (school of Fine Arts of Venice, Quebec, Zurich or Milan …), participates or organize many exhibitions, real or virtual, reproduces Art Fairs or Museums (Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Ceramics Museum in Vallauris …), works with a chief (Christian Sinicropi of Restaurant “La Palme d’Or” in Cannes) … Or receive visitors worldwide and makes for them a guiding tour in a virtual car.
(excerpt from Wikipedia)

Moya consists of the 4 islands Moya, Moya Land, Studio Moya and Moya Museum. The 4 sims are fully packed with museums, entertainment, places to discover, shopping, park and garden, with architecture, education, oversized sculptures, hidden art in a pyramid, different forms of transportation (airport, modern city railroad, rezzable cars), paintings and reproductions of real world exhibitions – way to much to fully explore within an hour. For a first overview I recommend to watch the 3 minute video about Moya, which is from 2015.

Moya Patrick (moya janus) has also a website with tons of information about his work and about Moya in Second Life. Unfortunately it is in French and I shy back from translating parts of it although I understand a little bit French (with my long forgotten school knowledge and the help of a dictionaire). Just look it up yourself www.moyapatrick.com

I really don’t know where to begin or where to end a description of Moya, hence I just publish a few of the 40 pictures I took during my one hour visit. For someone loving virtual art in Second Life Moya is something you must experience yourself. Just amazing and overwhelming. Thank you Partick Moya!

Simploring 2017 (49) Blue Orange

When I visited MetaLes..O..Art Virtual Space (read here) I saw among other art, the exhibition Melancholy by Ini (in.inaka). I got in contact with Ini and she proposed to see her last project: Blue Orange and she passed me the landmark to it.

Friday, June 23rd, I had the opportunity to visit Blue Orange. The landmark text describes Blue Orange as a friendly bohemian club for MUSIC and ART lovers. And it is! The landing is at a subway train station, that already contains quite a bit of art. I got welcomed “Hello to all and welcome at BLUE ORANGE bohemian underground club and art project 2, space around club may look tricky and easy to get lost, please use notecard with all locations(inside poster on wall), sure if also lazy to walk 😛 no pressure about advanced lights and WL, but it could help, lets have fun :-)”
I took the notecard, that contains landmarks to see the pieces of art at Blue Orange from Theda Tammas, Cica Ghost, Rebeca Bashly, Jarla Capalini, Gitu Aura, NicoleX Moonwall, In Inaka and Igor Ballyhoo. Blue Orange is group owned, the group was founded by Ini, hence I suspect, that it is Ini’s baby.

The Blue Orange Club

The landmarks in the notecard didn’t work for me, I just got teleported back to the landing point when using them. But you can as well explore Blue Orange without the landmarks. Blue Orange is a club, with exhibitions and pieces of art arranged around this really cozy and individually styled club. I read that every once in a while at Blue Orange there’ll be parties, cozy or crazy, simple or very messy or themed events as well – with some really exclusive Blue Orange music lovers or guest dj’s.

I explored the whole club and the current exhibitions. As with Ini’s exhibtion that I saw at MetaLes..O..Art Virtual Space, Blue Orange offers a different way to exhibit art, from classic exhibtions like those from Gitu Aura, NicoleX Moonwall and Jarla Capalini to art playing with light like Duality from Igor Ballyhoo, from single 3 D art like Great Escape by Rebeca Bashly to 3D art showing 3D statues within a labyrinth from Tehda Tammas, from just 2 pictures from Ini herself to the art installation of Cica Ghost “Rainy Day”. It is not that difficult finding the exhibition even without teleporting, you just have to find the stairways down and up from the club level. When you explore the exhibitions don’t miss to take the notecards that are offerend at some exhibtions and that will provide some more Information about the artists and about what you see.

I liked a lot what I saw. I think the concept is similar to MetaLes..O..Art Virtual Space, changing exhibitions from various artists, and various forms of art. Ini made a great job in realizing this art project. I did enjoy my visit to the fullest and got a lot of inspirations. Thank you, Ini, for providing the landmark but most of all for providing this space for the art within Second Life.
