A summer’s farewell to Frisland

There’s always something to explore in Second Life and so far I don’t get tired of it at all. Far to often I have a visit on my list but with all the other activities that I like in SL I often don’t find or take the time and forget about it. Frisland is one of the visits I had on my list and forgot about it until today when I read in Inara’s blog that it is going to close soon.
The story behind Frisland has it’s on magic “Frisland is a phantom island that appeared on virtually all of the maps of the North Atlantic from the 1560s through the 1660s. This is our try to let our imagination run wild and create a region related to this mysterious phantom island.” (taken form the landmark description).

The time has finally come to bid farewell Frisland’s golden reign…

We have shared two amazing years since opening Frisland back in March 2014, and have been blessed with so many precious moments shared with all of you, which we shall carry with us as treasured and priceless memories in our hearts and minds.

So reads, in part, a note from Charlie Namiboo, Anna (Annabell Barzane) and Frislanda Ferraris announcing the forthcoming closure of their photogenic and popular region, Frisland.

I first visited the island on March 23rd, 2014, shortly before its public opening. An invitation had been extended to me to do so by Charlie, something I was more than happy to accept. And like many who have visited the region, I instantly fell in love with it – and with the fact the over the intervening two years…

My first visit to Alki

Sunday morning I found the time for some simploring again after quite a long while. I picked “Alki“, which is described in detail in Inara Pey’s blog “Returning to Alki in Second Life“.
I like to start a visit with reading the short description of the Landmark:
Alki is a living, evolving project inspired by the Pacific Northwest. Fun activities and scenic spots to play and hang with friends. Wander the peaceful forest path, take in an amazing sunset at the beach. Home to Z&A Coffeehouse & Art Studio.”

May 21st: Arriving at Alki

May 22nd – Arriving at Alki

When you arrive at Alki you land at a sign post directing you to the different activities. I first went up to the coffeehouse and the art studio on the high plateau. The coffeehouse seems to be more a place to dance at night than to have just a coffee. The art studio is for sure a great place to display art. But up there you’ll find also other activities, like a visit to the underwater garden, a balloon ride or using the zip lane to go down again. I personally like the animation for your way down to the underwater garden. Well, I admit I should have changed to a swim suit but I was too lazy. Fortunately in Second Life you can go diving fully dressed and in high heels – and you don’t get wet.

During my visit I was alone and in a playful mood. I tried the big water slide – great fun! Close the the big water slide you find also quite some games, I personally found a new greedy game, embedded in a whirlpool, what a nice idea. And I tried the diving board. So if you’re up for playing, here you go.

I finished my visit at the beach. Not only there you find lovely spots to sit, dream and cuddle. Once again I discovered a great sim with various activities which is worth visiting more often, in particular not alone. For me it is amazing that I still find so many nice places, created with love for the detail and open to the public. Building myself, I know that there’s a lot of work (well building and creating is fun, isn’t it?) behind it. But at least maintaining a sim costs some money – so thank you very much Zoidyn (Zoidyn Kytori) and Alana Onyett for providing it to us all.

Recreating Buckingham Palace in Second Life

The palace is a proof of what is possible in Second Life, just amazing! And you can sense what an effort it was to build it. Knowing that the creators did research and did care about little details makes the visit even instructional. And you get a lot of information to understand the buliding and the living of it’s residents. I can’t stop being excited about this virtual world and about the creativity people develop to add to our experience! I can only recommend a visit even for non-royalists.

Jacon Cortes recently invited me to visit a project on which he has been working on for the last several years, and which finally opened its doors to the public in late 2015: an exquisite reproduction of Buckingham Palace. Intrigued, I hopped over to take a look, and Jacon and KarenKate Sands were kind enough to join me.

“We call it Regency Buckingham,  Jacon, a period role-player known in-world as  Jacon Cortes de Béxar (the historians might note his surname being indicative of another of his interests) told me. “Altogether, it’s been three-and-a-half years in development. and we’re still  building project, and it is still a work in progress; we still have some rooms we are working on. But we have reproduced twelve of the staterooms, which people can tour.”

Hakone JPK Airship Pirates Port Town

May 2nd was another quiet night. Jenny and I went simploring together. I was curios to see “Airship Pirates Town” which is described in detail in Inara’s blog under the titel “Of pirates and airships in Second Life“. This is a really creative fantasy construction with two sailing vessels at the front and a big sort of a town at the back. The “town” is a mixture of everything, wooden houses, brick houses, spaceships, airships, chimney, walkways, railrods, zip lines, gear wheels, motors, elevators …. simply weired but very interesting to explore!

We first went up to the top where we overlooked the town and could also sit together. Yet some nice cushions with cuddle seating are missing there.

We walked up and down, we climbed and used zip lines, we tried an elevator where you sit upside down, we used secret levers to climb through rotating gear wheels, there’s really a lot to see and explore! There is also a central place quite close the the landing point, the  main plaza, where you’ll find a teleporter to the main points of interest “Tower House, Furniture Factory, Secret Forest, Pirates’ Hideout, Steampunk House, Planetarium”.

We had a great time and there’s for sure a lot more to explore, more details and more creativity. Thank you へき (hekirekika.jinn) for providing this weired construction, this town for us in Second Life. I recomend a visit to enjoy and discover. Have fun!

Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor in Second Life

Serotonin Reuptake InhibitorSerotonin Reuptake Inhibitor

Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor is the latest immersive installation by Frankx Lefavre. Like all of his work, it is deep in imagery and symbolism, but it is also and in difference to his previous works, a very personal piece.

“Serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the primary drug used to treat anxiety, depression and panic attacks. Last December, I was given a LEA grant for 2016. By January, I was suffering major attacks of anxiety and panic leading to depression. This is the resultant build,” Frankx says candidly of the piece.

The result is a piece that is deeply immersive installation making extensive use of projected lights and colours (so you’ll need to have ALM enabled in your viewer). In entering it, you are literally entering the artist’s mind, and witnessing first hand the tumult and confusion of a mind in turmoil and at odds with itself. Light, colour and…

Devil’s Point

Last Saturday I had time for a short simploring tour on my own. I went to Devil’s Point. Again there’s a very detailled description of this homestead sim in Inara’s blog, titeled “A rugged corner of the British Isles in Second Life“. You land just next to a graveyard, which is a bit scary. Why was this landing point selected? I was alone on this island during my visit, are all residents dead, is the island abandoned?

April 23rd: A visit to Devil's point - at the graveyard

April 23rd: A visit to Devil’s point – at the graveyard

After wandering around a bit and inhaling the atmosphere I decided to get an overview of the island. One of the clear upsides in Second Life: you can just zoom your view out to get an overview.

April 23rd: A visit to Devil's point - overview

April 23rd: A visit to Devil’s point – overview

The overview helped a lot to orientate and to understand Inara’s decsription. You can see the separate rocks with the green high plateaus and the buildings as well as the canyon with the river and the railway (on the left). Well, the railway makes only sense if you imagine not to be on an British island of course as there’s no destination for the railroad. As mentioned I was all alone on this beautiful island and I peeked into several buildings. It looks all abandoned, like from another time.

I went on exploring and had a look into other buildings. The whole island is very peaceful and there’s a lot to explore. The rough nature invites to take pictures or to sit down and enjoy. The buildings invite to pore over their former inhabitants or their former use. And there are other strange objects where you can’t find out any sense. So you can let your mind wander.

April 23rd: A visit to Devil's point

I also found one of my favourite picture motives in both worlds: a covered brigde.
My visit was short and I hadn’t the time to fully explore so I need to come back. I’ll end this post with quoting the landmark’s description text about Devil’s point: “Embracing the nature, beauty, and culture of the old British Isles. A place to explore, unwind, relax, and take pictures“. Thank you Zakk Lusch and They Ellisson for creating this sim and providing it to the public!

Noelia Island

Sunday mornings I often explore Second Life’s beauty on my own, and so I did this morning. My destination today was Noelia Island. I read about it in Inara Pey’s Living in a Modemworld blog. Her post is titeled “Mediterranean meditations in Second Life” and I recommend reading it before your visit as it provides a good overview.

A visit to Noelia Island (1)

A visit to Noelia Island (1)

The landmark description text is also a good summary of what to do on Noelia Island “Explore Noelia, a beautiful Mediterranean island. Couple dance, date, romance or cuddle in the romantic spots, take a fun boat ride, relax on the beach, take photos or meditate near the Budda“. Last but not least there’s a blog about Noelia Island.
Back to my visit. I first went up the hill to visit the Tuscan villa. It is build with love for the details and I spent more time there than I expected. In particular the reading pose on the terrace is really lovely. I can literally see myself doing that in RL…
20160403 Noelia Island_040After my visit to the villa I walked along the shore and came to the mystic cave. It is not a maze, but as the name implies it has some mystic. There’s a ghost welcoming you, there’s a spiders net and a flying chair (of course I also sat on it but looking at it was more fun). I also saw a dance pole in the cave for mystic moments together.
20160403 Noelia Island_041Then I walked over the large rope bridge to the smaller island, the meditation island. There are several spots to mediate also a Buddha as mentioned in the landmark description. I tried several of them but personally I think I’ll get more into mediation with the reading pose at the villa mentioned above. And there’s the stone of wisdom … When you click on it you’ll get wisdoms to think about like….
The Magic Stone of Wisdom says: Don’t make an effort to love the world. Love your internal world and the world will be different. – Byron Katie
The Magic Stone of Wisdom says: A solid foundation for all relationships, be they romantic or otherwise, begins with Self love. Your reality is a reflection of your vibrational state, and as such, others will reflect back to you your own beliefs about your Self.
The Magic Stone of Wisdom says: If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. – Henry Ford

But there’s something else, a large dance and disco area and a bumper boat rezzer. I never drove a bumper boat before neither in SL nor in RL. Well, now I did. And it is real fun. As Kitty came online I had to take her there and we had fun. When the boats hit each other exclamation marks appear above the drivers. That is for sure something to do with more people!

Happy Easter – Follow your bliss

What to do on a Easter Sunday morning when the weather outside isn’t nice in RL? Follow your bliss 🙂

March 27th, Easter 2016 – Follow your bliss (1)

I intended to do a bit of simploring this morning.
I decided to visit Follow your bliss, again inspired by Inara Pey’s Living in a modemworld blog. Her post about this sim is titeled “Follow your Bliss in Second Life“. Inara’s description is very detailled as it is always, so I recommend reading it. Follow your bliss is just lovely. It is a world of cosy islands of which some are connected by bridges, others can be reached by using a boat. Thank you Elizabeth (ElizabethNantes), for providing this place for us all.
During my visit I was alone and enjoyed being on myself. There are many many many places to sit and cuddle, full of power and tranquility, perfect for letting go and unwinding. And that is what I did.

Dear Diary (25) March 19th: Exploring, chatting and Mistress Jenny’s rezzday

Saturday, March 19th, was quite a mixed day. It started with a visit to “The Trace Too“. I have visited this sim already several times and each visit was different. If you read the sim’s welcome notecard, you’ll know why: “Since 2013, owner Kylie Jaxxon has been showcasing her seasonal SIM, The Trace. In 2014, she was joined by Elvira Kytori also the owner of White Dunes Estate rentals. They have successfully collaborated  together on the continually changing SIM design

The sim offers many spots to sit and to look plus it is just great for taking pictures. I walked along the beach and to the lighthouse. What caught my attention in particular were fields of blooming lavendar. Although a bit too early for this time of the year, it just looks amazing and I could seemingly smell the odour.

You can read about The Trace Too and see pictures of it at various sites in the net like in The Trace flickr Group. There are also some posts about this sim not only in my blog but also in Inara’s blog “Enjoying spring at The Trace in Second Life” or in the SL Blogger Support “Location in the Spotlight: The Trace Too“. Thank you Kylie Jaxxon & Elvira Kytori for providing your lovely place for us throughout the seasons. I really enjoyed a lovely and relaxing hour at it.

As I waited to see Mistress Jenny in the afternoon, our slave Nina showed up and I took her to the “Lost Domme Resort”, as I had met slave Dana there. Usually that is a place for dommes to chill and to live out their softer (submissive) side. I should bring Mistress Jenny here next time *winks*. Anyway I spend time with slave Nina, teased her and chatted with her. She was a good girl, just like a slave should be.

Then Mistress Jenny showed up and of course she had to get her rezzday spanks: 8 smacks for 8 years :-). I enjoyed that very much and Mistress Jenny did not object and she even counted each smack. Congratulations, Mistress – and thank you for being with me and us all these years!

March 12th: Diomita visiting “The Mill” (1)

Yesterday evening I found time for a bit of simploring again. I followed another recommendation of Inara Pey and visited “The Mill“. Her description “At home at The Mill in Second Life” is quite detailled and there is not much to add. I took the picture above because of the name of the sim. But that is just one place to discover here. The Mill offers a lot of opportunities to spend some hours in SL in a beautiful surrounding.

March 12th: Diomita visiting "The Mill" (2)

March 12th: Diomita visiting “The Mill” (2)

I was attracted by the sailing ship and the nice pier. A place to stay and chat with friends. The pier is adjacent to a lovely beach that I visited as well before I climbed up the hill to the ruins up there. I had a great view from there and tried the telescope. There are more places like that at “The Mill” where you can take outstanding SL pictures. The atmosphere is calm and I felt sort of being on vacation.
