Art in Second Life 2022 (89) Eunoia by Zia Branner

I got an invitation from Zia Sophia (Zia Branner) to attend the opening of her latest exhibition named “Eunonia” at the Third Eye. I had no time to attend the opening but went there soon before.

Third Eye is Jaz (jessamine2108)’s home and gallery – a place that is designed to showcase art, particles, inspire stories, and offer a quiet place to relax and rejuvenate. Jaz says: “It is the culmination of my many dreams – to create a place that nurtures and helps the growth of all types of creative endeavors – be it words, pictures, or particles.
Jaz shares the land with Harry Cover (impossibleisnotfrench), who runs his shop “L’Artisan” on the sim. Both are artists and I have reported about them before.

The Third Eye gallery is in a skybox. It is a classic gallery, in the form of a “L”. Zia’s pictures are arranged at the walls, in the center is a plave to dance and to celebrate events.

Impressions of “Eunoia” by Zia Branner @ Third Eye (1)

Zia explains the word Eunoia in the notecard that came with the invitation:
Eunoia comes from the Greek word eúnoia. The meaning of this word is: beautiful thinking, a well mind. It indicates a mind in balance, benevolence, goodwill and kindness.
In all lives from time to time it isn’t easy to have a mind in balance. We have our downs, we have our challenges. There is cold, there is warmth. Our strength then lays in our goodwill, in our kindness and with this the balance in our mind and our well being goes up again.
For me Eunoia is represented by the main colors blue and red. Of course you can assign to it the colors that are most applicable to you.

Zia’s pictures are mostly abstract, yet the human brain tends to sort the impressions and to compare with known patterns. Some of them clearly look like labdscapes, like a beach or like a waterfall. Others are completely abstract, colourful and with multiple forms so that you can see objects like stones, teeth,  hands, or even persons or faces. And often the main colour is blue or red.

Impressions of “Eunoia” by Zia Branner @ Third Eye (2)

Zia Branner had many drawing and painting art lessons at official institutes RL. She is also autodidact on things that did not come along in class. To her making art is a way of life. Often experimenting with techniques as a learning process …. The most important thing to her is that it makes her happy to see others enjoy her art as much as she loves creating it.
Zia is in Second Life since 2008. She uploaded her RL paintings into SL. Zia owns an art gallery/shop “Elven Falls Art Collective“. Zia also has other permanent exhibitions at The Galleries, Emergent and at Carmel Art Community.

Zia Sophia (Zia Branner)’s motto is : “The Earth without ‘art’ is just ‘eh'”

Thank you Jaz (jessamine2108) and Harry Cover (impossibleisnotfrench) for providing the space for the arts and for enabling this exhibition by Zia. Thank you Zia for your artwork. I enjoyed my visit.

P.S.: Don’t forget to grab the two gifts in the center of the exhibition space. One gift is a 3D object created by Harry, the other is a painting from Zia.

Art in Second Life 2022 (88) Africa by Milena Carbone @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery

Today, Monday, October 31st, the exhibition “Africa” by Milena Carbone (mylena1992) will be opened. It is the November exhibition at the Nitroglobus Roof gallery, owned and curated by Dido Haas.
The opening party will start at 1 PM SLT (9 PM CET) with a dance performance created by Milena, where visitors can join in. DJ Fleming with provide the tunes and the particles will be contributed by Venus Adored.

“Africa” is the second part of the 5th season, a triology by Milena Carbone that deals with the causes and consequences of climate change. The first part, named “Blind” was exhibited at La Maison d’Aneli in June (read here).

Milena wrote about “Africa”:
“Africa” takes a look at the African continent, both amazed and crude.
Amazed, because Africa is a fertile paradise of biodiversity and beauty and the cradle of humanity, born in the rift, the vagina of the earth.
Crude, because Africa is a continent raped, slaughtered, poisoned, looted with impunity by empires, in cynical disdain of its inhabitants. Africa is what started it all by the grace of evolution, and will end by the rapacity of man.

“Africa” consists of 13 pictures:
The story of Grace, in seven paintings, an Ethiopian orphan who, at age 33, inherits the home of her father whom she never knew. As she explores this strange house, she more or less follows the biblical journey from creation to paradise and God’s doubt one Sunday night (“Oh my God, I think I’ve screwed up so damn bad”). In this part, Milena Carbone clears God of predestination and gives keys to understand that, if he is at the origin of the Creation, he has created the conditions of free will.
The Twilight of Humans is the story of Abel, an African man whom Grace meets in her house. In six tableaux, he travels through the destruction of the African continent, ends up being the last man in the world and makes his own burial ground in the rainforest.

Impressions of “Africa” by Milena Carbone @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery (1)

As always the pictures can develop their strengths with the mirroring floor at the Nitroglobus Roof Gallery. The story of Abel is in one wing and the story of Grace in the other wing of the exhibition space. Between the pictures of Grace is a video wall playing the short film “Living Picture 4 Africa” which is also available on youtube here.

There are some 3D statues of African animals in the center of the gallery space. Once you get closer, the statues vanish and texts appear instead. As always in Milena’s exhibitions, texts and pictures build one unit. While in “Grace’s wing” the texts deal with God, the texts in “Abel’s wing” deal with the plagues that mankind has caused on earth: climate change, extinction of species and forced migration.

Impressions of “Africa” by Milena Carbone @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery (2)

Milena mentioned in the accompanying notecard that her writing style for the texts featured at the exhibition “Africa” is “more syncopated than usual, cutting the story with several levels of interpretation with inserts of scientific facts, memories or questionings of herself. I readily admit to having been amazed and inspired by the American author Jenny Offill.

For the pictures Milena continued further expanding and broadening her style. She used the AI Midjourney again to create the backgrounds of her pictures. Milena had an exhibition of pictures created with Artifical Intelligence just recently: “Metamorphoses” (read here). The characters were added from Second Life.

Impressions of “Africa” by Milena Carbone @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery (3)

Milena Carbone (mylena1992) is a French artist and is in Second Life since mid 2019. She discovered its artistic potential and since then has devoted all her free time to creation, associating, as in real life, images and texts: “Milena Carbone is a fiction in which, as in any artistic work, biographical and imaginary elements are mixed.” Her creative process is iterative: some of her images inspire her stories and these stories modify the development of the image, which itself transforms the story.
Milena has an own gallery, the Carbone Studio and she has a bookstore @ Noir’Wen City.
Milena has an own website, you can also find her on flickr here and you can read her texts here.

Nitroglobus Roof Gallery is owned and curated by Dido Haas. Thank you, Dido for providing the space for the art and for enabling the exhibition “Africa” by Milena Carbone. The exhibition poster of “Africa” was created by David Silence based on an image of Milena.

And thank you Milena for another great exhibition. I enjoyed my visit.

Art in Second Life 2022 (87) Bamboo Barnes: Personal Aspect

Bamboo Barnes is going to open a new exhibition, Personal Aspect at the Akipelago, at Akiniwa. Akiniwa is owned by Akiko Kinoshi (a.kiko).
The exhibition is a restrospective with pictures and small picture installations of Bamboo Barnes, featuring her artwork of almost 10 years.

Exibibition poster and impressions of “Personal Aspect” by Bamboo Barnes at Akiniwa (1)

The exhibition is huge. Bamboo’s pictures are shown at 4 large exhibition buildings. In 3 of 4 corners between the buildings Bamboo made small 3D installations with her pictures. The 4th corner will present 3D art by Kerupa Flow and was not yet built at the time of my visit.
The center square will be used for the opening event today, Friday, October 28th, 12 PM SLT. At the opening even Carelyna will provide the music.

When I think of Bamboo Barnes, I immediately think of colours, of colourful pictures, of a feast of colours. All exhibitions that I saw from her were colourful – and of course a retrospective exhibition must consist of colourful pictures too.

Impressions of “Personal Aspect” by Bamboo Barnes at Akiniwa (2) – the 4 exhibition buildings

The amount of pictures is overwhelming. I estimate that Bambo selected about 100 pictures from her pool of artwork. The three 3D picture installations int he corner were new for me. Bamboo arrange her pictures together with 3D objects, giving the pictures a new environment instead of displaying them at walls. Some of her pictures in these corner installations change permanently. I suspect that these installations look even better with an environment set to midnight. Unfortunately I forgot to change my environment and used “Midday” for my pictures.

Impressions of “Personal Aspect” by Bamboo Barnes at Akiniwa (3) – corner art installations

In front of one of the exhibition buildings you can grab a free chair, designed with Bamboo’s art.

Bamboo is in Second Life for over 15 years already, painting software & photoshop are her best friends. Bamboo had many exhibtions and appearances in the Second Life art scene and in 2018 she had her first exhibition in real life: “I create what I see but maybe you won’t, they are about people’s reality and  mind.
Bamboo’s art is a mixture of abstract forms, of people and photographs. Most pictures are colourful and it is in the eye of the beholder what we see in her pictures.
I myself saw her work the first time at La Maison d’Aneli during the Holiday season 2019/2020 (read here). I also saw her exhibition “Marginal Mannerism” at DixMixGallery in April 2021 (read here), the exhibition “Meant to be” at Itakos Art Gallery last year (read here), I saw “Conjure” at FOCUS Magazine F.A.I.R Gallery in August 2021 (read here), “Mindstorm” at IMAGO Land (read here) and “Drawer” at Hannington Arts Foundation (read here). Last December I saw her exhibition “The path” at Art care gallery (read here) and this year “Metaphysics” at the Kondar Art Center, (read here), Colores Primarios (read here) and New Day (read here) – wow, quite a list in the meanwhile!
Look also at Bamboo’s flickr page.

As mentioned above there are about 100 pictures! Just to give you a better impression of what to expect when you visit yourself I picked a few pictures for a collage.

Impressions of “Personal Aspect” by Bamboo Barnes at Akiniwa (4)

I visited again shortly before the opening so have a look at the 4th corner with the 3D art of Kerupa Flow. Kerupa wrote about it: “Without collaboration with you, my work is invisible. How you interact with the piece, what it makes you tink; the feelings it invokes is what uncovers it’s soul. Take your time, immerse yourself in the display: be aware.
You can walk into one of the installation: heads, geometric objects, squares, texts … and everything changes permanently. Now it is at the visitor which feelings the installation seeds.

Kerupa Flow is a 2D&3D artist from Japan and in Second Life since 2007: “After all, there live the same person both SL and outside SL, so even if the tools changed, you can have the same scent.“.
Kerupa has a permanet place “Kerupa’s World” at Akimori. For more information and current exhibitions look up Kerupa’s profile or grab a notecard.

I enjoyed my visits. Don’t miss this exhibition with Bamboo’s colourful artwork.
Thank you Akiko Kinoshi (A Kiko) for providing the space for this exhibition.

Art in Secod Life 2022 (85) MISHAPS – The daily life of Ambre Singh

I got an invitation to see a new exhibition of Ambre Singh in the NovaOwl Sky Gallery: “Mishaps”. The invitation was similiar to that I got for “Past Masters” (read here). It was a HUD with quite some menu entries for landmarks also to her main gallery, her biography, something about the exhibition and other links, like Ambre Singh’s own webpage, her store on the marketplace and her flickr page.

Ambre wrote about “Mishaps”: “Since a good part of my SLife consists of getting into all sorts of misadventures, the theme was a natural one. Another common thread in my SL presence is a form of spiritual activism. My virtual existence might as well serve a purpose, right? It is therefore with pleasure that I invite you to discover my new exhibition, “MISHAPS, the Daily Life of Ambre Singh”, generously hosted by The NovaOwl Sky gallery.”

Knowing Ambre Singh’s art, I expected funny and witty pictures. I was not disappointed. Ambre herself was present and welcomed me with the words “Welcome to one more silly outburst of mine :)”
The gallery space is huge. On the ground floor Ambre Singh’s pictures are often extended with 3D objects fitting to the according picture. Every picture has funny and fitting title. There is a sandbank with beach pictures.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (1)

Where the heck did Ambre get these ideas, this wit and this irony? The pictures are really funny and made me smile. In some pictures Ambre picks up on current topics like covid or King Charles III. And it’s no surprise that Ambre also added some explicit pictures, as I did expect it. The gorund floor packed with pictures and ideas.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (2)

On the stairs to the second floor sits a man with a bouquet of flowers, but take a closer look, it is ot a bouquet of flowers, it is a bouquet of coloured dildos *winks*. The pictures on the second floor are also witful, but most are with a serious background. At the entrance of the second floor Ambre added a text:
A good way to get into trouble is to show your political views.I personally feel that seriousness is suffocating the planet and making people amorphous. We need joy, disobedience, courage and love. So here is my little contribution, my call for a joyful, libertarian and libertine awakeing. The beginning is near!”

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (3)

Ambre Singh is in Second Life for over 15 years. She writes about herself:
‘It is your mind that creates this world’, said Buddha.
All you do in SL will subtlely change you and others in all worlds. So in my life and art, I thrive to add my spice, beauty and love.
I photograph people of character in beautiful places of SL or in studio. Sometimes, I create thematic images in SL, or I mix worlds… If the harvest is good, I make an exhibition.
Colorful or discrete, tender or erotic, my photos try to express the life and the soul of the people and places.

Impressions of “Mishaps by Ambre Singh” (4)

I had fun visiting “MISHAPS – The daily life of Ambre Singh” at NovaOwl Sky Gallery. Thank you Owl (Owl Dragonash) and Uli Jansma for providing the space for Ambre Singh’s “Mishaps”. Ambre also mentioned Kika Yongho for her precious help in decorating the space.

The exhibition is open until 27 November 2022 – enjoy your visit, like I did.

Art in Second Life 2022 (84) Noir by Joanna Kitten @ Nitroglobus The Annex

Dido Haas invited me to the opening of new exhibition at in the annex of her Nitroglobus Roof Gallery: “Noir” by Joanna Kitten (joaannna). The exhibition will be opened officially today, Monday, October 10th, at 12 PM SLT (9 PM Central Europe Time). The music will be provided by Jewell, the particles will be added again by Venus Adored.

I saw Joanna Kitten’s work at Michiel Bechir Gallery in March 2022 (read here). Kitten is in Second Life since December 2019. She wrote about herself and her art: “Kitten was first drawn to second life photography in 2020 initially by seeing the results produced by entrants in a photography competition at the sim where she works. All her pictures are taken inworld and are only a little edited afterwards.
Her big love is landscape photography and she travels the grid in search of the perfect shot her pictures revealing her love of nature, the sea, exotic ruins as well as parasols and umbrella’s. Her pictures look to showcase the myriad ways in which light makes a picture, the gaudy autumn colours, reflections, the play of light on the water and towering cloudscapes.

And that fits to what Dido Haas, the owner and curator of the Nitroglobus Roof Gallery wrote about Joanna Kitten. Dido met her taking pictures of landscapes and saw more of her work at Joanna Kitten’s flickr page. She liked what she saw and invited her to exhibit at her gallery. But she had a challenge for Joanna and asked her to make something different, not landscapes or nature. The result is “Noir”.

Impressions of “Noir” by Joanna Kittan @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery Annex (1)

The exhibition consists of 8 black and white pictures, all inspired by Joanna’s love of the 1950’s Film Noir: “The images shown in this exhibition were made at various locations and Kitten would like to thank those who have assisted her in bringing these pictures to life. In particular Frau Jo Yardley whose 1920’s Berlin Project sim is the location for a number of these images. Other sims featured are Isle de Noir, Blue Orange, Temple Hof and Omerta City.

Once again the mirroring effect of the floor, the showcased 3D objects along with the light art provided by Adwehe add to the overall impressive pictures. The exhibition room is seperated in the center by a transparent wall. You can only see a little bit of the picture that is hidden in this almost fully transparent wall. What you can see is the text on the lower right side of the wall: “Of all the Gin Joints in all the Towns in all the world, She walks into mine”

Impressions of “Noir” by Joanna Kittan @ Nitroglobus Roof Gallery Annex (2)

Joanna’s pictures impress by some minimalism which makes the spectator focus on the details. The woman in the pictures is Joanna Kitten herself in a dress fitting to the theme. When I visited the exhibition before the opening, I had the luck to meet Joanna there and she changed into the dress she was wearing for some of the presented pictures.

Nitroglobus Roof Gallery is owned and curated by Dido Haas. Thank you, Dido for providing the space for the art and for enabling the exhibition “Noir” by Joanna Kitten (joaannna). Thank you Kitten for your art, and thanks also to Adwehe for the light effects.

“Noir” shall is the October/November exhibition at the Annex of Nitroglobus Roof Gallery.

Art in Second Life 2022 (83) “Pumpkins and things” by Cica Ghost

Monday, October 3rd, Cica Ghost opened her next installation, that fits to the upcoming Halloween season. She named it “Pumpkins and things“. The thought Cica provides with the landmark description is a quote from Edgar Allan Poe: “Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.”

As usual with Cica’s installation you shall use shared environment. You will get reminded upon landing. You should also set advanced lighting and activate shadows from sun/moon and projectors. The environment settings are part of Cica’s art. For “Pumpkins and things” she selected an orange and glowing environment fitting to the seaon. The ground is also mostly orange. The “flowers” fit to the theme: Ghosts, spider sunflowers, spider nets and pumpkins in all forms. The island of “Pumpkins and things” has several hills and some ponds. The buildings are either “Cica-ish” or surprise, surprise pumpkins.

Impressions of “Pumpkins and things” by Cica Ghost (1)

What else? Monsters, ghosts, spiders, “wormans”, bats , an old man and a witch, an evil balloon, two “sipirt deers” and quite some new cats! I didn’t have to search a cat this time *winks*. There are several places to dance in this Halloween atmosphere. And of course there’s also a graveyard, which is guarded by a monster.

Impressions of “Pumpkins and things” by Cica Ghost (2)

Cica’s “Pumpkins and things” serves all common clichés about Halloween but in a funny way. There’s nothing really scary. The characters are peaceful and I did smile a lot seeing how Cica interpreted Halloween. Well done, Cica!

Impressions of “Pumpkins and things” by Cica Ghost (3)

I enjoyed the many cats, and the old man and the witch look fatanstic! I think that the “spirit deers”, that look more like trees and are an hint to the upcoming season, are just a very creative idea.
Cica has a store in a seperate pumpkin at “Pumpkins and things” where you can buy all the new characters including the new cats.

Impressions of “Pumpkins and things” by Cica Ghost (4)

Thank you for another great installation, Cica, it made me smile once again and distracted me. Visiting your installations is always a welcomed time-out where you can immerse yourself into another fantasy world – far way from everyday life – particular considering all the crisises in the world.
As always, don’t wait to long with your visit to “Pumpkins and things” , you never know how long it may stay – it is a temporary world. maybe Cica keeps it until Halloweem. I would appreciate that!

Art in Second Life 2022 (82) The Art of Living in.adHD @ The 22 art space in Bellisseria

A new exhibition was opened today at The 22 art space in Bellisseria: “The Art of Living in.adHD” – a self exploration by DeCarlo Maximus FitzGerald (Reddee Hian).

“The Art of Living in.adHD” – The 22 Art Space in Bellisseria / press room / exhibition poster

I got a notecard together with the invitation explaing the background of the exhibition:

The Art of Living With ADHD is a photo essay consisting of 14 (nice even number) images that run from amusing to moving and all the feelings in between.
“Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and into adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity (over-activity)….
Approximately one-third of children diagnosed with ADHD retain the diagnosis into adulthood.”
https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/statistics/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd

DeCarlo uses his imagination, his environment and his ADHD to present us with what he is feeling and is sure to stir similar emotions in all that view his work.

Impressions of “The Art of Living in.adHD” @ The 22 Art Space in Bellisseria (1)

All pictures are photographs taken in RL and imported into Secon Life. The characters in the pictures are toy figures, made of plastic, paper or cardboard like the one shown in the exhibition poster. And each picture has a short clear title and is signed with “ADHphotographyD”. Beside that some of the pictures are qutie funny, most of them inspire to reflect the disease that is so widely spreaded. Though the loneliness  that is expressed in some of the pictures did touch me, my favourit picture is named “inside my brain” – if you want to sort this chaos you really need patience and have to be very focused!

It is the first time that I saw pictures by DeCarlo Maximus FitzGerald (Reddee Hian). DeCarlo is in Second Life since end of 2006 – and that’s all I could find out.

Impressions of “The Art of Living in.adHD” @ The 22 Art Space in Bellisseria (2) – lower left shows “in my brain”

The 22 Art space is a gallery in Bellisseria, a continent with many Second Life prime members homes. The gallery is on one of these homes. It is owned and curated by Randy Firebrand and Ricco Saenz. The gallery’s name refers to the Modern Art Week in 1922 in Brazil, also known locally as “The 22 Week”.

Thank you Ricco Saenz and Randy Firebrand for enabling and presenting this exhibition. You guys find always something new, being it a new artist, a new concept or exhibitions with a message. Thank you DeCarlo Maximus FitzGerald (Reddee Hian) for your artwork. I enjoyed my visit.

Art in Second Life 2022 (81) “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost

Monday, September 12th, Cica Ghost opened another new installation named “Pink fairytale“. The thought Cica provides with the landmark description is a quote from Philip Pullman: “Once upon a time lasts forever.”

As usual with Cica’s installation you shall use shared environment. You will get reminded upon landing. You should also set advanced lighting and activate shadows from sun/moon and projectors. The environment settings are part of Cica’s art. For “Pink fairytale” she selected a pink environment, actually all is in pink (surprise, surprise!). The ground is either sand with footprints and tracks or kind of a carpet with white stripes. There are many sunflower and flower fields, and groups of trees, almostsmall forest. The island of “Pink fairytale” is mostly flat with a few single hills from whichyou can overlook the scenery.

Impressions of “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost (1)

Pink fairytale” is just this – a fairytale in pink. You can walk through this fairytale and explore it, you can sit down and watch (hoover with your mouse over benches and other objects) or you can dance (look out for the sign “Dance” and click it). Of course there are big animals again: ducks, elephants, pigs, a monkey, a cat, a horse and a stork. What’s missing to make it a fairytale – yes, a prince and a princess. And something is also in the underground. There are some tubes growing from the ground and soap bubbles are rising from the tubes.
This time there’s also a store again where your can purchase the different animals and the prince with his princess.

Impressions of “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost (2)

Cica’s “Pink fairytale” is a place where you can lose yourself in dreams. There are many details to discover. There’s a castle with a portcullis that opens when you step on a square in front of it. Inside you find a room …. and the pink cat. Thank you for providing a cat again, Cica! In front of the castle you find the princess surrounded by three ducks and a pink elephant. The pink pigs are close to an oversized cake. Well the cake is still out of reach for the pigs *winks*.

Impressions of “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost (3)

There’s another elephant not far away from the pigs. You can sit on it. If you look close you can see a small bug teasing the elephant’s trunk – or is the elephant trying to catch the bug, I don’t know. Anyway, if you zoom in close the bug is alos very “Cica-ish”.
The prince is sitting on his horse and watches observes what is going on in his realm from another hill.

Impressions of “Pink fairytale” by Cica Ghost (4)

As a little, funny extra Cica has invited her friend Eupalinos Ugajin to add something to “Pink fairytale“. Not far from where you land Eupalinos has installed a bar. There’s a sign “click the bar to get a drink”. I got many different things – but no drink! I got a “fembotulator”, a typewriter, a truck, a “dramaPodium”…..  all objects are to be worn and I tried them out. That was fun! (And I didn’t try out all objects. Thank you Eupalinos and Cica for this extra fun.

Thank you for another great installation, Cica, it made me smile once again and distracted me. Visiting your installations is always a welcomed time-out where you can immerse yourself into another fantasy world – far way from everyday life.
As always, don’t wait to long with your visit to “Pink fairytale“, you never know how long it may stay – it is a temporary world. And Cica told me that she already began planning her next installation.

Art in Second Life 2022 (80) Fading Melu by Melusina Parkin

I got an invitation of Melusina Parkin to see her newest exhibtion “Fading Melu” at Melusina Parkin’s Photo Gallery.

I am a fan of Melusina Parkin’s art and have seen quite some of her exhibitions. Melu’s style is minimalistic. She takes her pictures in Second Life. The minimalism forces the spectator to focus on details, that might stay unseen when too much distracts the view. “Fading Melu” is a different exhibition, something I have not seen before from Melusina Parkin. The exhibition consists of 22 portrait pictures (if I counted correctly). I assume from the title that Melusina selected for this exhibition that all portraits show Melusina herself.

“Fading Melu” is shown at Melu’s Photo Gallery right above store for Art Deco furniture “Melu Deco”. In the center you find a table where you can purchase a photobook about “Fading Melu” as well as a free catalogue of all photobooks published 2021-2022 and a free book with the exhibition posters 2010-2021.
Those who are regular visitors to Melusina Parkin’s exhibitions know these books already. Melusina makes one of every exhibition. The book about “Fading Melu” is sold at the exhibition, all others are sold under her brand “Melubooks” in a seperate book store: Melubooks shop.

The portraits are all blurred – faded. That is another way to force the spectator to focus on details. It is also a technique to inspire the spectator to add details that are not visible from own experience. For me personally in most of the pictures Melusina looks a bit mysterious. And if I were asked to estimate a time period I’d say that most of them look a bit 1920/30ish. My personal favourite picture shows Melusina with big sun glasses and a red scarf. The blurring makes the portrait look very real and you can see that there’s something in the background  (other people?). Quite intriguing. Melu picked the backgrounds for her portrait picture intentionally, some are also just plain black.

Melusina Parkin is in Second Life since September 2008. She has been a fashion manager, a journalist, a furniture creator, a builder, a decorator and a photographer. Her work as a photographer has been showcased in more than 50 exhibitions – from which I saw just a few. Melusina has a flickr account which counts more than 13,000 (!) photographs. Extensive collections of her photos can be seen also on her blog Virtual Exhibits and on some slideshows on Youtube (links also under this post).
There’s also an online book with her Second Life exhibits 2011-2019 here.
Melusina Parkin has an own gallery at Time Portal, “Melu’s Photo Gallery“, where “Fading Melu” is presented and an own store for Art Deco furniture called “Melu Deco“. Melusina also owns a second place (Melu Space) with another gallery (Minimum Gallery), a bookstore and another “Melu Deco” inworld store.

Thank you for another great exhibition. I enjoyed my visit and seeing something unexpected different from you, Melusina.

Art in Second Life 2022 (79) Shoshin by Zia Branner

I got an invitation from Zia Branner to attend the opening of her latest exhibition named “Shoshin” at the Museum for Art (MUFA). The opening takes place tonight, Sunday, September 11th, at 12 PM SLT, that’s 9 PM CET (Paris). The music for the opening party will be provided by Carelyna, the owner and creator of the ArtCare Gallery.

The Museum for Art (MUFA) is owned and curated by Vandeverre who “likes to share her passion for history, culture, literature and art, so she built the Museum for Art.” Vandeverre provides several links in her profile, there an instagram, a flickr and a twitter account for the Museum for Art.

Zia Branner’s paintings are exhibited on the ground floor near the stairs (just where the provided landmark of the Museum for Art (MUFA) takes you) and near the DJ stand.

Besides Zia Branner’s paintings there are more artists featured:
Illustrations ‘From Oz to home’ by Lis Xia (Xia Chieng).
A sculpture garden with works from Cherry Manga, Vincent Priesley (sweetvincent), Art C (ar10a2.crescendo), and Milena Carbone (mylena1992)
SL Photography by Vandeverre herself – current expo “PORTRAITS”.
Digital 2D Art by Nia Atreides (Nia Voxel), Lis Xia (Xia Chieng), Dragon (dragonangelvs) and RL Photographs by Nils Urqhart
Historical art by Claude Monet made in Holland and Guiseppe Arcimboldo.

Back to Zia Branner’s newest exhibition “Shoshin”.
Shoshin is a word from Zen Buddhism meaning “beginner’s mind.” It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner would. The term is especially used in the study of Zen Buddhism and Japanese martial arts (source wikipedia).
In the accompanying notecard Zia explained the word shorter: “Shoshin means: the practice of seeing life with wonder”

The paintings belong to “Shoshin” are near the DJ stand, and it is the first time that these paintings are exhibited.

They are abstract, yet the human brain tends to sort the impressions and to compare with known patterns. I saw teeth, toes, hands, I saw a river with stones, I saw a woman, I saw smoke and an explosion – and I saw colour compositions that were eye candy for me.

Zia’s paintings exhibited near the stairs are abract landscapes, a style that I saw already in former exhibitions of her art.

Zia Branner’s art is mostly colourful. She paints abstract and fills the canvas with what just in her mind. She’s inspired by nature and landscapes and consequently her art often looks like landscapes or like flowers. Hence the boarders between abstract and real life paintings are blurring. And what is dominating lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Zia intends to expand her art into painting RL, portraits or still lifes, but so far she’s painting abstract.

Zia paints, primarily, for herself. It is a way for her to express herself. a way to step away from the everydy hustly and bustle of things.
Figuring out, struggling with or succeeding in creating a painting, capturing things the way I see them on the canvas … it is a big drug. Well, okay, there you have my addicition…. ‘The Earth without ‘art’ is just ‘eh’…

Enjoy your visit to the Museum for Art (MUFA) and to Zia Branner’s newest exhibition “Shoshin”. Thank you Vandeverre for providing the space for the arts, and thank you Zia for your newest exhibtion.
I enjoyed my visit!
