Simploring 2018 (101) Vespertine

For my simploring tour on Sunday, November 18th, I picked Vespertine from scoop.it SL Destinations because of the nice and colourful pictures I saw. The landmark description of Vespertine did already give away what to expect: “deco, home, garden, skyboxes, prefabs, shopping, autumn, relax, nature, original mesh“.
Vespertine is a store for the products listed in the landmark description. The store and the sim is owned by dead inside (amelie knelstrom).

Vespertine overview

Vespertine is a homestead. I first zoomed out for an overiew. The sim is dominated by the store which takes most of the available space. It is embedded in a really nice, colourful surrounding, that is worth a visit for it’s own.

Impressions of Verspertine (1)

Vespertine consists of 2 islands. The main island is occupied by the store. You land outside at the entrance of the store and can either decide to visit the store or to explore the smaller island. I explored the smaller island first. It offers some nice places to sit and it offers great views because of the foliage – a perfect place to take pictures. At the end of the smaller island you can take a ride with a paddleboat, which I did.

Impressions of Verspertine (2)

Then I explored the store. It offers home and garden decorations. I have seen a lot of it’s stuff already during my simploring tours. Hence in some respect it was a deja-vu for me. Vespertine also offers prefabs and skyboxes. I have seen at least the greenhouses, that are sold there, before at other places. And also the summer ice cream truck, which seems to be quite popular. From the store you can take a teleporter to a rezzing area where you can see the prefabs and skyboxes by temporarily rezzing them.
I really enjoyed poking around in the store. That’s another shopping experience. You get ideas by looking at the stuff and it is presented in a very appealing way.

Impressions of Verspertine (3)

I appreciate it a lot when shopping is not limited to the marketplace and I like it even more when shop owners present their stuff thoughtfully and when they provide a nice surrounding for visitors. Particularly for a home and garden store that’s fitting. Dead inside (amelie knelstrom) made this effort and I enjoyed my visit to the store as well as the outside. Vespertine is really a great place for photographers.

Thank you dead inside (amelie knelstrom) for adding this nice place around your store.

Simploring 2018 (100) The Beguinage of Bruges

For my simploring tour on Saturday, November 17th, I selected Dagger Bay from scoop.it SL Destinations. Inara Pey has written a nice and detail post about Dagger Bay that inspired me even more to visit Dagger Bay (Exploring Dagger Bay in Second Life).

Dagger Bay and the adjacent homestead (South Haven Bay and Haven Bay Hunting Estate) are owned by Jaysun Dagger. According to Inara Pey the sim has been designed as something of a team effort. The landmark description is literally inviting: “We invite you to visit the beautiful Village of the Beguinage of Bruges and surrounding countryside. Please enjoy a walk on the forest path or relax in the coffee house along the canal with a snack or something to drink.

Dagger Bay – overview

In the center of the sim is the Beguinage of Bruges. I looked it up on wikipedia and found following information:

A beguinage, from the French term béguinage, is an architectural complex which was created to house beguines: lay religious women who lived in community without taking vows or retiring from the world.

In the first decades of the thirteenth century much larger and more stable types of community emerged in the region of the Low Countries: large court beguinages were formed which consisted of several houses for beguines built around a central chapel or church where their religious activities took place, and often included also functional buildings such as a brewery, a bakery, a hospital, and farm buildings.

The landing point is just at the entrance to the Beguinage. From there I first explored the complex. It is built with an extraordinairy love for details and when you compare pictures of the Beguinage of Bruges in the physical world with those taken at Dagger Bay in Second Life the similarity is intriguing. Well done!

The Beguinage of Bruges – UNESCO World Heritage site

I walked through the Beguinage and also looked inside, where you can discover a lot more. The cafe next to the museum is a noce place to sit. In one building you find pictures of the Beguinage of Bruges in real life. The chapel is fully furnitured and decorated inside. The court is just beautiful. And then the beautiful colours of autumn. I was overwhelmed and of course I took a lof of pictures.

Impressions of the Beguinage of Bruges in Second Life at Dagger Bay (3)

But there’s more to discover at Dagger Bay. The Beguinage of Bruges is surrounded by several small and larger islands which are all connected by bridges. The islands and the vegetaion are beautiful. I enjoyed walking through the forests and couldn’t get enough of the colours. There’re several residential houses. All of them are extraordinairy designer homes, places at least I dream to live in. They are furnished as well but I didn’t look inside except of one, which I called the palace as it looks like a palace from the in- and outside.

Impressions of Dagger Bay – residential homes

Of course I also visited the gazebo, which is situated a bit aside and offers a lovely view into the nature.

Impressions of Dagger Bay – the “Palace” and the gazebo

To sum it up, Dagger Bay offers a visit to the Beguinage of Bruges, a real tourist landmark in RL and in SL, along with a beautiful designed nature sim, that gleams in the colours of autumn.
Thank you Jaysun Dagger for providing this gem to the public! I enjoyed my visit a lot.

Simploring 2018 (99) Achill Island

I picked Achill Island from scoop.it SL Destinations for my simploring tour on Saturday, November 10th. Achill Island is owned by Ziggy Duster (zigmal) and Grace Sixpence. It’s their private homeplace. The design and landscape was done by Minnie Atlass.

Achill Island – overview

Achill Island in Second Life might be inspired by the island in the physical world which is the largest of the Irish isles, and is situated off the west coast of Ireland (read more in Wikipedia). For sure the landscape reminds of Ireland with it’s steep cliffs, the partly green rocks, the low vegetation, the many birds and the loneliness. Achill Island is open for visitors but the two houses on the island are private. Upon landing you get a notecard with the above information and you can join the island’s group for a small fee to get rezz rights if you need them for your pictures.

Impressions of Achill Island (1)

Impressions of Achill Island (2)

Achill Island is a place for taking pictures or to retreat and dream, to mediate, to inhale the nature, to enjoy the beauty of the environment. There’s not much else to see. Besides the two private houses, there’s a lighthouse, a bar on another very small island and a gazebo.

Impressions of Achill Island (3)

The beach offeres some places to sit and cuddle and there’re several other spots that you can use for this purpose. I was fascinated by the many lovely views, that Achill island is offering. I’ve been in Ireland in the physcial world and can confirm that Achill Island does provide the feeling of a visit into Ireland’s nature. The vegetation, the rocks, the few scattered trees and the structure of the shore do fit perfectly. I could literally smell the fresh Irish air. Achill Island is rural but develops a very particular charme.

Impressions of Achill Island (4)

I looked up pictures of Achill Island in the physical world and I saw some that looked like being taken in Second Life. The stone hut at the beach, that I named “birds beach”, does exist there in reality and it seems to be a point of interest for tourists. Hence it was Ziggy’s and Grace’s intention to bring at least this part into Second Life.

Impressions of Achill Island (5) – the stone hut in the upper right picture does exist in reality at Achill Island

Thank you Ziggy and Grace for providing your home to the public. I enjoyed my visit a lot!

Simploring 2018 (98) Hinansho

My simploring tour on Friday, November 2nd, led me to Hinansho. Once again I picked the landmark from scoop.it SL Destinations. Hinansho is a homestead owned and created by Akeno (akeno kaligawa). The landmark description is short: “Hinansho, a realistic japanese anime-like scenery.

Impressions of Hinansho (1)

I’ve never been in Japan or even in Asia in real life, hence all I know about it is from reading or watching tv. Hinansho does fit into my picture of Japan. It is a small town, the roads are narrow, the houses are small, everything is quite neat. There are small gardens, small oasises of peace. Nonetheless there’s a large playground, a quite large public park and a graveyard.
I explored the whole town and peeked into most houses. Some of them are empty inside but you can walk in and they are mostly tiny inside as well. But some of them are furnished. There’s a laundrette, a barber, a cafe and a bar. In one road close to the playground is a market with several market stalls. Just opposed to the graveyard is one relative large Japanese residential home that is furnished inside.

Impressions of Hinansho (2)

During my visit I was not alone in Hinansho. Several other people were visiting as well and their names were written in Japanese characters. That added to my feeling that I just made a short trip to Japan. I like how Akeno succeeded to put quite a lot houses into the limited space of a homestead, still leaving enough space for elements like the park and the graveyard. When you’re inside of the town, you feel like being in a bigger Japanese town. And there’s still room for small gardens as I would expect it.

Impressions of Hinansho (3)

I enjoyed my short trip to Japan. Thank you, Akeno.

Simploring 2018 (97) Another joined exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli

On October 31st, a new joined exhibition of 5 different artists was opened at La Maison d’Aneli. This time it features the art of Nevereux, Cybele Moon (Hana Hoobinoo), rikku Yalin, Barret Darkfold and Violaine (anadonne). And once again the mixture of different art is quite facinating.

I started my visit with Nevereux, an artist who I came across this year the first time seeing the installation doLLoureux (read here). At La Maison d’Aneli Nevereux presents the 3Dinstallation “Assembly line”. This installation is mostly made up of black straight lines, that define a room or an area. Some very few elements and texts “disturb” the lines and the rooms built by them. This maybe a blinking “Sale” sign in red, or a chair or a sliding door or a head. Together wiht the different geometrical forms you’ll be inspired to think about the potential messages behind it. You cross the room freely, the lines don’t hinder you, but nonetheless you feel the limitations that those line imply on you. Everybody has to make it’s own conclusions. Or as Neveruex expresses it “The point is that you’re inside a 3D drawing.

La Maison d’Aneli – Neveroux

Cybele Moon (Hana Hoobinoo) is offers a mixture of photographs taken in the physical world on in virtual worlds. With some pictures it’s hard to distinguish where they were taken, or are the mixed? I liked in particular the Autumn picture with a tree loosing it’s leaves in front of it. Each of Cybele’s pictures seems to tell a story, that you have to make up yourself. The protraits are attracting, at least I wanted to know more, and again I can make up my own story.
Cybele has an own blog, that you might want to look up.

La Maison d’Aneli – Cybele Moon (Hana Hoobinoo)

rikku Yalin’s art is a mixture of 3D and 2D, the objects seem to be built from scrap, they are to some extent funny. They interact with the 2D pictures displayed at the walls, be it graffiti or be it screws, nuts and gearwheels. Looking at the details is very interesting and at least my thought was that it all shouldn’t be taken too seriously. I just enjoyed exploring rikku’s art.

La Maison d’Aneli – rikku Yalin

Barret Darkfold, in RL known as David Aran Brugues, is an abstract painter from Catalonia working with techniques like watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed, encaustic, and digital art.
At La Maison d’Aneli he presents paintings with the colour Yellow. On a frist view they might look all similar, due to the amount of pictures on the same size, but looking closer at them you see that each of them is unique and as they are abstract you may interpret them yourself.
David Aran Brugues has also his own website, if you understand Spanish (I don’t) and are interested to see more of his art.

La Maison d’Aneli – Barret Darkfold (in RL David Aran Brugues)

Violaine (anadonne) shows variations of RL photographs, abstract pictures and watercolour. The pictures are grouped, 4 variations of a picture or scene each. They are clearly connected with each other and tell a story or offer a different point of view. I for my part can’t categorize her art. I think she’s playing with different forms to express herself.

La Maison d’Aneli – Violaine (anadonne)

La Maison d’Aneli is owned by Aneli Abeyante. Through her gallery she brings together all forms of creativity in RL and SL and the featured artists come from around the globe. Aneli’s intention is to “put her gallery in the service of artists, so that the world can be better, exchanges and meetings probably contribute even though it seems to be particles.

Thank you for another great joined exhibtion, Aneli. This joined exhibtion at La Maison d’Aneli is open until November 25th. I enjoyed my visit and it inspired me.

Simploring 2018 (96) Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s

For my simploring tour on Thursday, November 1st, I picked Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s from scoop.it SL Destinations. The landmark description did kind of invite me:
Welcome to our land… be happy & enjoy your stay overhere ! It’s a priviledge being invited here by us 😉
Sweet hugs & kisses.
Anita & Kiara

Impressions of my visit to Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s (1)

Anita & Kiara that are Anita Dark (anita khaos) and Kiara Dark (kiaraslet) and Sweet Paradise is their home, their paradise. It consists of 2 islands, on each of them is nice house with several porches and piers. Kiara’s sailing yacht is anchored between the two islands. Both houses are furnished and decorated with great love for the detail. At the beach and on the porches are many spots to sit and talk and cuddle. Birds are flying and on the smaller island is a little group of flamingos. Yes, it’s a paradise, a place to take a time out.

Impressions of my visit to Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s (2)

I was surprised that Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s is open for the public as it looks being a private retreat, but as mentioned above I felt invited to visit and I appreciated the invitation. Sweet Paradise to the Dark’s offeres a lot of nice and peaceful views and is for sure a place for taking pictures. It is another example of what is possible in Second Life with just little ressources. I enjoyed a very relaxing time there.
Thank you, Anita and Kiara.

Simploring 2018 (95) Glenrosa

I picked Glenrosa from scoop.it SL Destinations for my simploring tour on Saturday, October 27th. The picture I saw and the description tempted me: “Glenrosa is a place to wander and explore. Set off down the winding road or take the shoreline. Whichever path you choose you will find lots of surprises along the way.

Glenrosa – overview

Glenrosa is a moderate homestead, an island surrounded by higher mountains. Upon landing you stand at a gate, with the name “Glenrosa” engraved into the gate posts. To me it seems like the entrance to a bigger property with a villa. I walked through the gate and followed the dirt road that acutally led me to a bigger house, a manor. It looked a bit abandoned. I walked inside and found it fully furnished, but most of the furniture was covered with sheets and moving boxes were piled up in some corners, the bookshelfs were empty. The other rooms and floors were similar mothballed and it felt somehoe a bit scary inside of the manor.

Glenrosa – landing point and the manor

I continued my simploring tour and walked along the shore. Glenrosa offers a lot of nature, some areas are quite meagre, the shores are either rocky or covered with black gravel. Some conifers grow under these conditions nonetheless. The nature looks very natural and fitting. I walked around a larger pond with a fishing hut, discovered a nice place to sit and enjoy. Admist some bushes near the shore I also discovered some art.

Glenrosa – around the lake

There’s an old railroad track and another house nearby, that I explored as well. Again it looked a bit scary inside and although it was furnished it felt like it wasn’t inhabited for a longer time. Quite in the center of Glenrosa is a chapel with a graveyard. But the chapel isn’t used as such anymore, although inside are a few pews. The chains at the walls, the chair where once the altar might have been, the two cages with candles inside indicate that it is used for some darker kinks.

Glenrosa – a bit of art and other impressions

At the end of my simploring tour I met the owners of Glenrosa, Gabriel (gabriel4botto) and Brandi Monroe, who happened to be at the pebbly shore. They had been at an Halloween party the night before and were still wearing their costumes, just like myself. I wore a witch costume from our Friday night party the day before.

Glenrosa – the residential house and the chapel

Gabriel is the owner of Corruption. Brandi explained to me, that “Corruption is a different sim they have. It is an adult sim. There is a fee to join that one and we have our events and all there. It’s a bit different looking than this one. Glenrosa is just a photography/hang out sim basically. We extended it originally as another option for our Corruption members to have, but decided to open it to the public about a week ago.

Glenrosa – more impressions / Diomita meeting Gabriel and Brandi, the owners of Glenrosa

And Brandi is absolutely right, Glenrosa is a great place for taking pictures. It stands out with is quite natural landscape and vegetation. It offers opportunities to retreat or for some darker activities. In any case, Glenrosa is worth a visit. Thank you for opening Glenrosa for the public, Gabriel and Brandi!

Simploring 2018 (94) The Yellow Lodge At Warm Springs

For my simploring tour on Sunday, October 21st, I had in mind to visit a sim which features the colours of autumn. But instead of visiting a new sim, I checked some older destinations. The first two that I tried, were gone but Warm Springs, that I visited three years ago back in 2015, is still available. You can read my simploring report about it here “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers (II)“.

Impressions of Warm Springs (1) – overview and landing point

The name of the sim has changed. It’s now called “The Yellow Lodge At Warm Springs“. When I arrived it felt immediately familiar. I landed on a pier, that was decorated with some pumpkins and with gear used to fish lobster. I knew that I have been here before and at least the pier hasn’t changed. Then I started my simploring tour and explored the whole sim on foot.

Impressions of Warm Springs (2)

Warm Springs consists of two islands that are connected by a covered bridge, an element that reminds me of my visits to the Northeast of the US in RL. The pier and the landing are on the smaller island. Across the covered bridge is a lighthouse that towers the two islands and looks like one of the many picturesque lighthouses on the Northeast coast of the US. I climbed up and enjoyed the view from the top of it.

Impressions of Warm Springs (3)

Is there much to see? Well, first of all the foliage is great at Warm Springs and you can enjoy the views. Some pictures I took look like painted with watercolour. Walking around and visiting the beaches is just fun. On the smaller island are two nice residental homes. They are furnished and decorated inside and they offer nice places to sit in and outsit.

20181021 The Yellow Lodge At Warm Springs_052

Impressions of Warm Springs (4)

On the bigger island are also two houses and one of them is the Yellow Lodge, the reason for the new name for the sim. This house is different and it was not there when I visited the first time back in 2015. It’s not a New England residential home, it is built of stone, it is yellow of course and it is home for several cats. The in and outside is extraordinairy colourful, with a touch of art-deco and a touch of the 1950ies.

Impressions of Warm Springs (5) – The Yellow Lodge

Warm Springs is a moderate homestead, owned by Irina Forwzy. Irina described it as “a picturesque, tranquil, romantic sim with quaint houses and the beauty of nature. Reminiscent of the Southern Atlantic states.” I can only agree! But for me her island is located in the Northeast of the US firstly because of the colourful foliage and secondly because ot the signs for Lobster.

I enjoyed my visit a lot, like a short trip into the beauty of Autumn. Thank you Irina for sharing your sim with the public.

Simploring 2018 (93) Rusty by Cica Ghost

On Sunday, November 4th, I made a spontaneous simploring tour in the early evening and visited Cica Ghost’s newest Installation called Rusty, that opened that very day.

Impressions of Rusty by Cica Ghost (1)

As the name already gives away, Rusty is rusty. It’s an island with a surface seemingly made of an iron sheet with a chess board pattern and some fields are rusty. The island is covered with an old plant, and of course the single elements of that plant are rusty. There’re some areas covered with flowers, and these are .. rusty.

Impressions of Rusty by Cica Ghost (2)

From the very beginning of my visit I had fun at Rusty. I kept the windlight setting. It is dark and the sky looks a bit threatening but it fits perfect for Cica’s installation. Each and every element of the “plant” is different and often you find little living rooms inside at the top of them, accessable by ladders.
Rusty birds have found their home at Rusty. And as it is Cica’s style these birds are comparably big and have big eyes that seemingly look at you. They sit on poles, on large rusty plants, on pipes and power lines. You can take a ride on several vehicles, which are extraordinary like a huge cat on wheels or a swimming mouse. You can choose different poses and dance on the head of the huge cat while it drives around the plant.

Impressions of Rusty by Cica Ghost (3)

Like a cameo appearance Cica began to hide one or more of her famous cats in her newer installations. I found the cat also at Rusty and it conjured a smile in my face.
Very funny is also that one of the plant elements is like a big chicken. You can climb up to it and sit “inside” over 3 eggs, that the chicken had layed. Cica added even more fun elements. On a platform that connects two of the living rooms at the top of the plant elements you can do a box fight. Cica provides the bozo gloves for the fight – and there’s another living room nearby with more chairs for the audience watching.

Impressions of Rusty by Cica Ghost (4)

A bit aside of the plant is a house that looks like the former energy supply of the plant or possibly the former control center of it. Actually, after exploring Rusty, it seems to me being more a little town rather a former plant side. At least it was transformed into a living place. Cica’s rusty birds and other animals found their place here as well as humans who installed their little living rooms and took over the place which looked so abandonned and rusty on the first glance.
The longer you explore Rusty, the more details you discover. For example that some of the living rooms are colourful and stick out in this rusty environment. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t discover everything.

Impressions of Rusty by Cica Ghost (5)

As always Cica didn’t write a detailed landmark description but provided a quote, this time the quote is from Joseph Addison, an English essayist, poet, playwright, and politician (1672 – 1719): “Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week.”
This fits perfectly as visiting Rusty conjures a smile in your face and washes away your worries for the time you dive into Cica’s world and enjoy it.

Thank you Cica for clearing away the rust 🙂

Simploring 2018 (92) Winter Moon

For my simploring tour on Saturday, October 20th, I selected Winter Moon from scoop.it SL Destinations. There’re a lot of reviews about Winter Moon already, it seems to be quite popular, yet I’ve never been there before. Winter Moon is a homestead rated PG, it is group owned by a group also named Winter Moon, which was founded by Dream Shadowcry. Joining the group is for free. As far as I could find out, the sim was created and is really owned by Dream Shadowcry. And it is quite popular indeed. The group has close to 3,000 members, and during my visit I was not alone at all, there were 10 other people around.

Impressions of Winter Moon (1) – overview and landing point

The landmark description is quite romantic: “You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you, that’s where I’ll be waiting

Winter Moon is an island in the form of a hoof. One part of the hoof is dominated by a steep massive rock, the other part is quite flat and on it’s end is a huge lighthouse that towers above the whole island. The bay, formed by the hoof is not open, as a bridge leads from the lighthouse over the bay to the other end of the island.

Impressions of Winter Moon (2)

The windlight setting is a bit foggy and set to immerse the island in a warm reddish sundown atmosphere. I switched the light to my favourite setting for simploring, which is “Annan Adored Realisitc ambient”.
The provided landmark for Winter Moon leads to a point close to the lighthouse, an alley with some upholstered furniture at the sides, chandeliers are suspended from the branches of the trees. It looks like a mixtures between indoor and outdoor, like a living room under the sky – and yes it looks very romantic.

Impressions of Winter Moon (3)

I walked up to the top of the lighthouse to get an overview, then I walked all around the island, crossing the bridge that connects the both ends of the hoof. What I noticed right when I landed continued. Winter Moon is a very romantic spot, there’re innumerable places to sit and cuddle, one spot more inviting than the other, a fantasy world yet not science fiction, just lovely. Sofas, beds, loungers, chairs, benches … and all offer a nice view into the beautiful and really peaceful environment.

Impressions of Winter Moon (4)

At Winter Moon you have the difficult choice between a romantic spot on the beach, or overlooking the beach, or in the forest, or looking at the waterfalls that run down from the big rock into the bay, or close to the lighthouse, or on the bridge or in the middle of the bay where some arcardes form a circle. As mentioned before, I was not alone during my visit and some spots were taken, but there’re so many that you will find a romantic spot far from other visitors any time. And I can understand now why Winter Moon is popular.

Impressions of Winter Moon (5)

I enjoyed my visit a lot. Thank you Dream Shadowcry for providing this romantic hideaway to the public. I will return whenever I look for a place to cuddle with my love.
