I visited “The other side of Me…” by Lika Cameo, an exhibtion currently featured at DixMix Gallery in room “Amalfia”.

“The other side of Me….” shows about 10 couples of a painting and a photograph, representing the “me” and the other side of me. Each of these couple comes with a thought or a quote.

The pictures are arranged at the walls of the room and on the both sides of a central extra wall. When you look into the room, you can read on the small side of the wall “The other side of Me…”. And you also look directly at two picture couples at the opposed wall.
Right next to the entrance on the left side is a text, the lyrics of the song “Otherside” of the US American singer and songwriter Avi Kaplan. You can hear (and see) it on youtube here. It is the perfect introduction to this artful exhibition:

Emerald ivy, wrapped around my skin
Pulls me deeper, drags me back again
Tangle me up in your vines
Take my spirit, take my mind
Take me over to that other side

On the right side of the entrance you find a short text of Lika with her thoughts about her exhibition “The other side of Me…”:
“… There is always more than eyes can see and hands can feel… there is another world where i can be or i am… there is always another side of me…
Look in the mirror and see, look at your eyes and feel, you are about to enter another dimension of You …“

The pictures are very artful and fanciful, true eycatchers that invite to immerse deeper into them. In particular with the provided quote to each couple of pictures. I began to ask myself “Do I have a similiar picture of the other side of Me? Do I desire to be the other Me? Do I want to go to the other Me?” It are these thoughts that let me immerse into Lika’s art. “The other side of Me…” is a well made exhibition that combines a poem and quotes with pictures and pantings to help the spectator to visualise them.

Lika Cameo (Likacameo) is in Second Life for more almost 4 years. She’s passionate about art, photography, architecture, travel, yoga and people. Lika has a flickr account with more of her art and she has an own gallery in Second Life, the Cameo Art Studio.

Lika Cameo’s art is unique and displayed very thoughtfully. I enjoyed my visit. Art in Second Life 2021 (122) The Cold Moon by Dixmix Source

On Saturday, December 18th, the next new exhibtion at DixMix Gallery was opened in room “Abby” – “The Cold Moon” by Dixmix Source himself.

The theme of the exhibtion is quite obvious the moon and consequently a moon levitates in the entrance to the room.
The exhibtion features 11 pictures around the moon theme. Dixmix wrote a short text about the exhibition. The text can be found in one corner of the exhibtion room:

“Since we started the “Moon parties Sound and Vision” with Aki, I was thinking to make a sweries of pictures of the Earth’s only natural satellite.
One day I dragged my loneliness in pixel in Bryn Oh’s new “Immersiva”
So inspiring.
As far as I can remember Bryn has always built mysterious, dark and unique installations on SL.
Today I have the pleasure to share with you here, my interpretation of the day of the full moon in December, called in some cultures “the cold moon” this new and last exhibition“

I asked Dixmix about the “Moon parties Sound and Vision” and he told me that he hosts these particles and music parties together with Aki (Akiko Kiyori) and he even provided a video of a party so that I could get an idea of these events. It seems that I have my “Aki”- weeks as I just recently saw “Clay & Seed” (read here) and “The Incal and the 4 Mazes” (read here) at Aki’s sims.
And Bryn Oh and her sim “Immersiva” are well known in the Second Life art scene.

The eleven pictures are fine artwork each. The pictures extend into the frames and all show the moon. DixMix named each picture and provides his thoughts with the name. The pictures all convey the melancholic atmosphere, that most of us experience when we look at the moon, particularly around this time of the year.

Dixmix Source is in Second Life for more than 15 years. So far I know him as owner and curator of the DixMix Gallery and as a dj. I get regular invitations to the parties at DixMix Gallery (I could never attend so far as I’m always busy at those times).
Dixmix is a Belgian artist, a photographer, a director, a musician and more. You can see more of his pictures on his flickr page. And of course, Dixmix owns and curates the DixMix Gallery. Violet Boa cares about the PR. When I looked up Dixmix Source’s profile for writing this post, I came across an interview that DixMix had with Violet Boa and it reveals a lot more about him. Art in Second Life 2021 (117) Boudicca Amat at DixMix Gallery

I visited the exhibition “Boudicca Amat” at DixMix Gallery in room Amalafia, that opened November 27th. The exhibition consists of 10 pictures by Boudicca Amat.

The ten selected pictures cover a broad range of themes, yet all show a female or a female face, be it in a more historic context, be it as a fantasy being or be it as a modern woman of these days. All ten pictures are quite focused offering not too many details. They range from minimalism to colourful fatasy.  Boudicca clearly has developed her own style and is able to create this variety.

I came across Boudicca Amat in August 2020 the first time, when I saw her small exhibition “5 Times Boudicca” at “The 22 Art Space in Bellisseria” (read here).
Boudicca is in Second Life amost 15 years. She writes about herself and her art in her profile:
“I make pictures. I make them for my own amusement, they have no deep meaning,
I’m not trying to ‘say’ something – I use my mouth and my typing skills for that.
For me they are an exercise in arrangement, lighting and effects. Sometimes it works ……sometimes it doesn’t”
And from the rest of her profile I can tell Boudicca lose to read, to talk and to write at least as much as making pictures. As for her pictures I can only say, I like them. You can find more of her art at her flickr account.

Art in Second Life 2021 (113) “… in there” by Awesome Fallen

I visited the exhibition “… in there” by Awesome Fallen at DixMix Gallery in room Abby, that opened November 20th. The exhibition consists of 13 pictures, which are all created digitally as far as I could see at least. Some of them or parts of them were created in Second Life.

“… in there” shows pictures of two or three different series. One series is about hands, gloved hands that hold something, that protect, that destroy or hurt, that hide or that touch.
The other series of 4 pictures show a glass picture frame that was just broken, thus exposing parts of picture to the evnironment. You can see the broken bits of glass next to the picture. The title “… in there” does fit to these pictures as you get closer to the picture itself when the glass is broken, you get to what is under the protecting glass, to what or who is “in there”.

I can connect the subtitle “… with the tip of my fingers, drawing smiles in the canvas of your feelings” only to a few pictures, that did make me smile. because some of the pictures did more disturb me, did make me think or even made me shy back – how cruel a finger or hand can be. But then, as with every peice of art, everyone has different emotions coming up when looking at it.

I came across Awesome Fallen in January 2021 the first time when I visited “Mind the Gap” at Itakos Project and Art Gallery (read here).
Awesome Fallen is in SL for almost 12 years, yet the profile does not give away much: “…… just another wave in the ocean …….”. Awesome has a flickr page tough with a lot of followers and I can understand why. The pictures are intriguing, invite you to take a closer look and to comprehend what Awsome wants to express or to make up your own story to the picture.

Art in Second Life 2021 (93) DixMix Gallery Anniversary Exhibtion

I got an invitation to attend the opening of the anniversary exhibtion at DixMix Gallery on September 18th. I visited the exhibtion the day after the opening.

DixMix Source features three exhibitions for the anniversary:

“Zwartwit” by Catherine Nikolaidis (opened until October 22nd) in room Amalfia, “Summer Vibes” by Lori Bailey (ishtara1) (opened until October 15th) in room Abby and “Cabaret” by Caly Applewhyte (Calypso Applewhyte) (opened until October 29th) in room Amona.

I started my visit with “Zwartwit” by Catherine Nikolaidis. Zwartwit is Dutch and translates to Black and White. Catherine’s pictures have a vintage touch. The exhibtion consists of 13 black&white photographs, photographs obviously taken in Second Life and processed with light and shadow effects into erotic art. All photographs show women in lingerie, sometimes only parts of a full body, sometimes focused on the face, never fully naked and always leaving enough room for the fantasies and stories of the spectator.

I saw Catherine Nikolaidis’ artful photographs already in May at DixMix Gallery when I visited her exhibition “Quelqu’un” (read here).
Catherine Nikolaidis was born in Greece and lives in the Netherlands. She joined Second Life in 2007 and photography is one of her passions. She writes about herself: “I believe strongly in sharing. I believe in communicating. I believe in creation and inspiration. I love black & white. I feel strongly for music.”
Catherine is a photographer, blogger & brand manager for several stores. She runs her own website and shares her work also on her flickr page.

The exhibition “Summer Vibes” by Lori Bailey (ishtara1) in room Abby is a real contrast. Lori’s pictures are very colourful and show beautiful landscapes and views, taken in Second Life. I had the impression that I have visited some of these places myself – yet I didn’t make such great pictures!

Lori Bailey (ishtara1) is in Second Life since 2013. She loves to explore new places and to take pictures of all the beauty Secondlife has to offer. She mostly makes pictures of landscapes, that’s her passion. It is the first time that I came across Lori Bailey and her artful pictures.

“Cabaret” by Caly Applewhyte (Calypso Applewhyte) is shown in room Amona. I have covered Caly’s artwork already a few times in this blog. “Cabaret” consists of 12 black and white pictures, originally taken in Second Life. Taking them must have been quite an effort. They all look to be from the 1920ies, show erotic studies of the female body in a typical “Cabaret” environment and dressed in lingerie of the time.

Caly (Calypso Applewhyte) is a SL Photographer from France, who joined SL in 2010. Her focus is the avatar itself as a means of expression to transport emotions. She processes her pictures with Photoshop. You can recognise her style, she has found her personal characteristic artistic style. Her pictures do tell stories, like good art has to do.
According to her profile Caly also blogs and has written articles for several magazines. And she also make portrait pictures of course. You can see her work also on her flickr account.

Art in Second Life (32) FreeDÂme by Vallys Baxter

On March 21st, another gallery was opened at Noir’Wen City – Vallys Baxter’s gallery. The first exhibition is named “FreeDÂme”. I went visiting the next day.

The gallery is in an old storage building. The walls are used to display Vally’s pictures and the rest of the room is filled with decorations, with stuff that piles up with time. There’s quite something to discover. And there are some nice places to sit downand enjoy this particular atmosphere.

I have come across Vallys Baxter last year when I saw portraits of her at the Itakos Art Gallery as part of the 2020 Summer Collection (read here).
Vallys is Second Life for more than 14 years. Her artist name is VallysValife. On the occasion of the opening of the gallery, Violet Boa published an interview with Vally and also wrote about Vally’s biography. The interview can be found here:

Vallys is a “sociable loner”. In her “hiding place” in Second Life, she devotes herself to the things she likes most, photography and writing. Often inspired spontaneously, by music, words, situations, emotions, sometimes by a film or a book, she transports her visions into her photos. Vally’s works are often in red, black, white 50/50 shades.

She has been interested in photography since her youth. In her passion for science fiction, she is drawn to Jules Verne’s works. Vallys is heavily influenced by the stories of “Women and Work” by Audrey Hepburn, Vivian Maier and Fran Lebowitz.

Purple is my medium side. White is my shadow.

All of the pictures at the gallery are very erotic. They show females, naked and dressed, sometimes just the legs, then only the upper body, then only a face or part of the face. And as mentioned in the biography the colours are red, black and white. I could look longer at all of them and immerse into the picture. Vallys’ pictures are quite strong in their expression.

The gallery is dominated by one large picture at the back wall of an elevated floor showing a naked female in black and white in a quite erotic pose – an eye catcher of the exhibtion.

It is great to see how Noir’Wen City develops more and more to an artist comunity – and now it has a gallery more. I’m curious to see more exhibtions of Vallys Baxter. Art in Second Life 2021 (28) Theda Tammas – Apsara

On March 6th, A new installation of Theda Tammas was opened at the Womb at DixMix Gallery – Aspara.

I visited on Sunday, March 7th. The Womb is a seperate platform in the skies above the gallery. The teleport is right next to where you land.
Once you’re on the platform you should adjust your viewer settings: graphics to ultra (or to the best your system can handle), enabled advanced lighting, enable sun+moon and projectors. You should also use shared environment (top menu “world” -> “environment”). Then you’re almost set to visit. Almost? Yes, enable music, it adds a lot to your experience of this installation.

Theda Tammas – Apsara @ DixMix Gallery – bird’s eye view

The environment is all in red tones. When you walk behind the wall with the recommended settings you will see the installation. Bascially it is a court surrounded by walls that look a bit like books. At one side is kind of a stage. What you see are dancers. I didn’t count them, I think there’re about 10 dancers. One is performing on the stage and stays there. There are 2 groups with 3 dancers who stay at one spot while dancing. The others move. There is enough motion to keep you busy watching, and enough stability to calm and relax, in particular together with the music: “shamanic drums, deep trance humming meditation, shamanic meditation music for stress relief”

Apsara? I looked it up on wikipedia:
“An apsara is a type of female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist culture. Asparas figure prominently in the sculpture, dance, literature and painting of many South Asian and Southeast Asian cultures. There are two types of apsaras: laukika (worldly) and daivika (divine). Urvasi, Menaka, Rambha, Tilottama and Ghritachi are the most famous among them.

In Indian mythology, apsaras are beautiful, supernatural female beings. They are youthful and elegant, and superb in the art of dancing. They are often wives of the Gandharvas, the court musicians of Indra. They dance to the music made by the Gandharvas, usually in the palaces of the gods, entertain and sometimes seduce gods and men. As ethereal beings who inhabit the skies, and are often depicted taking flight, or at service of a god, they may be compared to angels.” (excerpt from wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apsara)

Theda made a great choreography. I don’t know how the mesh figures are programmed to dance and to move, but it looks naturally and enough randomized to provide the impression of living dancers. You should see it yourself. I found a video on the internet. It has been provided by Violet Boa.

Theda Tammas is in SL for almost 14 years. She has had already some exhibtions of her work. I couldn’t find out a lot more about her. If I interpreted it right, then she’s from Brasil (I might be wrong though). Theda has an own website where you can see a lot of her former installations.

Art in Second Life 2021 (8) Art Galerie HaXue at Noir’Wen City

I got an invitation from Violet Boa to attend the opening of the new “Art Galerie HaXue” at Noir’Wen City on January 10th. I visited the gallery before the opening on January 9th.

Art Galerie HaXue is owned by the two artists Puce (titput) and Cayenne (Bebop Xue). During my visit Nieu (NieuwenHove) was present as he was preparing the stage for the opening party. He gave me some background information about the two artists:
“Puce and Cayenne… Two young artists working together, complementing and multiplying each other, each one of them offering us a magical and teeming world where dreams simply become real, without any other form of question or word…..
They make a playful art, out of the ordinary, open, varied, where the extraordinary simply becomes obvious. Puce and Cayenne make us travelling in a lively universe where they explore and defy without emphasis the laws of logic. They also allow us to find in us a part of childhood with adult eyes.“

Impressions of Galerie HaXue at Noir’Wen City (1)

Both artists were not new to me. I came across Puce (titput) in September 2020 at La Maison d’Aneli (read here). Puce is in Second Life for more than 4 years. She was curious and began building, shaped prims and began building her own world.
And from the latest exhibition at La Maison d’Aneli in November 2020 I know Cayenne (Bebop Xue), a French artist, who is in Second Life for over 12 years (read here)

Impressions of Galerie HaXue at Noir’Wen City (2)

It is no surprise that you can recognise the art of Puce and Cayenne at their gallery immediately when you you saw their work before. Right behind the entrance on the left side is a quite large exhibit from Puce, playing with light and shadows, with scupltures of humans transparent pictures on the walls.

The art of Cayenne is also coined by the play with forms and lights. There are two pictures at the gallery where she place a 3D object in front of the picture so that it literally connects with the picture. In one work it is a sphere, in another work it is two heads looking at each other. Depending on your viewing angle you get diffeernt impressions.
The constant change is also expressed by a couple of pictures that rotate so that you’re forced to focus to see the picture itself. In another picture Cayenne has brought the texture on an half shell and added light effects – and again you have to focus to see the picture itself. A few of Cayenne’s pictures are originally taken from an installation of Cica Ghost. Cayenne enhanced and processed them but Cica’s art is still recognizable behind the pictures.

Impressions of Galerie HaXue at Noir’Wen City (3)

At the back wall of the Art Galerie HaXue you find a door leading to the “Dream Factory”. This part of the exhibtion reminded me of Puce’s installation at La Masion d’Aneli. I wrote: “a world using chess patterns, transparency, lights and shadows to compose a piece of art that you can walk through. Most elements are animated, so the installation changes permanently and I for my part had dificulties where to look at first.” That fits to the Dream Factory as well, at least with regard to the chess patterns and the chess figures. I also recognized the maid dresses that levitate in the room. But still, it is not the same piece of art. And there’s a second different room which walls, floor and ceiling are covered with pictures and patterns in warm tones. In the room live a few crows.

As the Art Galerie HaXue is Cayenne (Bebop Xue)’s and Puce (titput)’s personal art space we can expect to see their newest art projects presented there. I enjoyed my first visit.

Art in Second Life 2020 (69) “Craving by Moon Edenbaum”

I visited Dixmix Gallery again, which was built by Megan Prumier, and which I came across by the hint of Violet Boa (read here). At the room Abby a new exhibtion was opened on Saturday, October 10th: “Craving by Moon Edenbaum”.

Moon Edenbaum’s exhibition can be tagged with “Sensuality, shadow and light, point of view and monochrome”

Moon is in Second Life for over 10 years. In his profile I read about him: “the more I learn the less I know , SL photographer & soul explorer”

Impressions of “Craving by Moon Edenbaum”

Moon’s pictures are highly erotic. The pictures radiate sensuality as well as a bit of melancholy. As they are in black and white the focus is only on the female body and face. Moon plays very well with shadows and light to enhance his work. You can see a lot more of him at his flickr page here.

Art in Second Life 2020 (58) Milena Carbone’s art at Noir’Wen City

I got an invitation for a particular exhibition at Noir’Wen City, that opens officially on Wednesday September 23rd – “Plead guilty” by Milena Carbone.

It’s the second time that I came across Milena Carbone (mylena1992) and her art. I saw her exhibition “Agape in Pace” at The Itakos Project and Art Gallery in March 2020 (read here)

For Milena Carbone’s exhibtion “Plead guilty“, that extends all over Noir’Wen City, I got a notecard from Nieu (nieuwenhove) and later also from Violet Boa, which describes perfectly a tour not only of this but also of 3 other exhibitions by Milena. I decided to make writing a bit easier for me and to simply use it for my post along with my pictures and some comments.

Milena Carbone (mylena1992) is a French artist and is in Second Life since mid 2019. She discovered its artistic potential and since then has devoted all her free time to creation, associating, as in real life, images and texts. By accepting the rule of the “double” (the real “I” and the virtual “I”), Milena Carbone includes herself in her artwork. Her creative process is iterative: some of her images inspire her stories and these stories modify the development of the image, which itself transforms the story.

We arrived at dawn in Noir’Wen City after a quick trip, and we have been immediately fascinated by the density and the harmony of this small regenerated and bustling industrial city of houses and restored buildings in its old factories which do host more than fifty galleries and stores of artists and fetish creators. It is here that Milena has taken over the urban and social space of this small town that has literally become the gallery for her exhibition.

Going up from the harbor to the central place of Noir’Wen City, the artist has arranged along the streets an impressive gallery of portraits of the inhabitants of this unlikely town who find themselves caught in the act of their desires or dreams. We do not know if each of these portraits overlooking the streets is a wanted poster or the image of their prisoner identity. It is in any case the living beacon of a long apocalyptic poem that we can read as we go along.

We then visited the church transformed for the exhibition into a place of art where Milena offers us the still unknown “sermon of Mahdi”, the fiction of a new Christ illustrated by paintings inspired by the Renaissance religious art and described in a book readable in SL and exhibited in the church.

From the church, we reached the castle on the heights of the city, where we had a wonderful lesson about “Nude is Art” with forty original paintings of Milena dedicated to the beauty of the body and its grace, beyond eroticism.

We end our visit by stopping at the art center of Noir’Wen to sit for a moment in the center of a virtuous circle of fourteen artworks which illustrate the “nine levels of love” linked with five humanist values. We can then slowly savor the deep pleasures of this new artwork of Milena Carbone, which will require us to plunge back into it to capture all the dimensions and emotions it arouses.

While walking, we could have also seen the galleries of many artists such as Belice Benoir (Ars Amandi), Ambre Singh, Colm Midnight, Al Niekerk, Anaya Oneiro, Jos Loll, Ninatchka, Pask Wasp, KarolinaKatt, BobbiEden, Wyald Woolley … We also noted the presence of a museum of virtual arts with an exhibition on the history of the pink Dildo. But these places will be the occasion of a new visit.

It remains in us the fundamental question that Milena Carbone asks us through this new masterpiece: is it fair to plead guilty?

With the opening of “Plead guilty” by Milena Carbone, also this years Noir’Wen city festival has started. It takes place in Noir’Wen city during 2-3 months at the end of the summer.
The Festival will revolve around an original artwork created especially by a selected artist, integrated into the city, with the possibility of using all possible types of visual arts and whose concept will aim to “give life” to the city, its inhabitants and its creators. And the artist of this year is Milena Carbone. There will be quite some events.

I visited Noir’Wen City the first time in April 2020 (read here). Noir’Wen City is a permanent fetish fair with over 50 inworld stores, it is a place to socialize, it is a place for the the arts with several galleries and lots of art exhibited in the streets. Noir’Wen City is a big city and as such offers a great background for pictures and it offers also rentals (luxurious villas). Thank you to Belice Benoir, to Nieu (NieuwenHove) and to the whole team as well as to Nathalie Monday and to Violet Boa who gave me a bit more information.
